The waterfall actually used to drop right into the Pacific until the land washed out in the 80s.

Pretty cool story about the place...where I took the photo was from where a house used to be, on the opposite bluff. The (really rich) people who lived there in the early 20th century willed the land to the state of California, and demanded in their will that the beaches be closed to the public, and their (awesome) house be torn down, so that the public could enjoy the land and the beach views. They used to have a cable towed car on rails (like a mining cart) for people to get down to the beach and back (it's cliffs otherwise).

Also, one of the first Pelton wheels was located on the property, powered by the waterfall's creek, and powering a few buildings on the entire ranch itself.

So, no Corey, we can't go swimming down there, but it's sure cool to look at

If you guys ever get a chance to check out Hearst Castle, just south of Big Sur, do it. It's a really cool look into what the really rich folks were doing about 100 years ago on the CA coast - steeped in history.

Strawberry Music Festival - Camp Mather, Yosemite

Hi All,

Just got back this afternoon from a great weekend in Yosemite, at the 30th year of Strawberry Music Festival:

http://www.strawberrymusic.com/

It was my first time, and my wife and inlaws' second (they went in September 2010 for the first time).

If you like bluegrass, rock, camping, and good vibes (lots of "beachwood aroma" going through the air at any given time...), this is for you! It's pricey - $200 for a 4 day pass, but camping, water and music are all included.

Aaron Neville was the headliner but I really liked Carolyn Wonderland (Think Stevie Ray meets Janis Joplin). Sam Bush closed it out last night and was amazing - crowd favorite for years - killer mandolin and fiddle player. I really recommend this event - it happens every September and May - Memorial and Labor Day weekends.

Camping....so, no camp fires allowed unfortunately. But we got to break out the rest of our fun gear My wife and I used our new REI Hobitat 4 tent (thanks in laws!). We also got to try out our new Camp Chef "Everest Edition" two burner propane stove (thanks again, in laws!). Compared against the 35 year old Coleman the in laws brought, this thing was like a nuclear reactor - fired up fast and burned hot. You could get a pot of water boiling faster than at home!!

Here are some photos:

Day 1: Bill Kircher and Too Much Fun

The most amazing camping stove I could imagine:

I quickly became "camp chef" of the camp and was put on egg duty:

"El Toro Negro" at rest:

And a nice little photo op on the way home today:
