OBX trip w/Pics

Well finally got around to tossing the Pic I took at OBX last month right afterIsabel hit it ( I know you all like pics here). I just replaced the rear spring with OME's prior to the trip and even gave the runner a good bath while I was there.

Great Pictures! How often do you go there?

I go to OBX every year. OBX is great. Did Isabell cause much damage? Hopefully theres still a highway 12! lol. Great pics and I love your runner. Those wheels are hot.

So what is up with outer banks? why do sooooo many people have those stickers? Is there some kind of attraction there?

Beachrunner 10-22-2003 05:04 PM

Thanks, I got 100's of pics got to love digital cams, I usually get out there once a year some times more, but Isabel did more damage to the southern parts past Kills Devils Hills it made a new inlet.... they wouldn't let people down that way to get pictures so I didn't get any there. I usually go to the northern end Corrolla and the Duck area you can just drive up on the Beach aka rt12 ;) Only alot of dune errosion, but it faired well

OBX is popular for...

its fishing and surfing. Personally, I love the place! Because of the steep shelf off the coast, the fishing can be phenominal from beach; which for the most part can be accessed by trucks. The steep shelf can also be great for waves and OBX catches swell in sooo many different directions. Its got a really laid back atmosphere with 60ft sand dunes (something to marvel at). They're still hurting there so if you'd like to help.
OBX Relief Fund
Peace.

I'm headed up there for the first time ever in a couple days. Last minute switch to there from another place so my dad is wondering if a rental car will make it the 10 miles of beach? Is 4x4 essential? Thanks

Wow, I really like your 4runner. That grill looks sweet. I have a set of the same wheels but mine are painted silver rather than polished. :( Looks like a good trip.

It is not too far to drive from the Metro D.C. area for many reasons-beach, fishing, history. It is as much a summer vacation destination as an area with a long history from the early seafaring days to the Wright Bros first flight. And you can still just go out and drive on the beach and see Cape Hatteras, etc...

OBX is beautiful

i was at the corolla/currituck area last weekend for the first time ever. i loved driving on the beach. it was like nothing i have ever done before. being so close to the ocean felt awesome. if i can figure out how to post pictures i would. havent spent much time trying to figure it out though. i like your runner. the rims are nice. and i would highly recommend 4x4 for the beach driving. i didnt get stuck but i can see how a 2wd truck could easily become immobile.

What do you mean about "rental car". If you are staying in the 4x4 area north of Corolla, 4wd and ground clearence is best to have. Especially during high tide when you are driving in the soft stuff. I pulled 3 people out while I was down there, 2 of them at the entrance to the beach, and 1 in a dune entrance (my wife). The 2 at the beach entrance 1 was only 2wd and the other was non-working 4x4 (2wd).

I was just there over labor day. I'll get the pics uploaded and post them.

My avatar was taken on one of the sand roads behind the dunes in the 4x4 area. The "small rain puddle" turned out to be up to my doors deep.
I had a blast and need to get back there NOW!!!

That area is north of Corolla. It is a designated 4x4 area. I was up in Corova Beach. Rt. 12 in Corolla comes to an end at the beach and you access it there. It is about 12 mi. of pure beach (sand) driving, the first 4 miles are just beach driving as it borders a wildlife sanctuary. After that there are roads behind the dunes that are good fun. I post a link that show some overhead shot of the area.
