The Naches Pass Trail...

...is featured in 4Wheel Drive and Sport Utility Magazine.

WATTORA does the Naches Pass Trail at least once a year, usually more, often with at least one stock Toyota with us and I must admit that we have never managed to put a rig on it's side like the magazine did... it must be a Jeep thing hehehe

Anyway, if you are interested in reading a bit about typical Washington wheeling, check out the article. I have scanned the pages and linked to the online article at; http://www.watrd.com/work/naches/

If that catches your eye, there are photos from our past chapter runs, including many trips across the Naches on our website at http://www.wattora.com/ Just click the "Past Events" link in the navigation bar.

yep it must be a heep thing and we wouldn't understand

Glenn 03-17-2005 10:19 AM

Ehhh ... magazines aren't always as great as they would like you to think they are. Flopping probably makes them feel they are more hard-core. If WATTORA has never put a rig on its side, the magazine writers must have been "trying harder."

tee-hee... Which way did they run it? And what time of year?

WATRD 03-17-2005 04:11 PM

The article says they ran it on the last day of the season, so that would have been the end of October. Judging by the sign, the look of the pictures and the commentary about how the trail progressed, I would venture a guess that they ran it West to East.

Corey 03-17-2005 04:44 PM

Thanks for the scans Rob.
October is when I did it from West to East back around '99 I think it was?

And that was with a stock rig with the same type of tires I have now, the Les Schwab Wild Country TXRs sized at 31", and I ran it at 35 PSI before I knew better ;)
Also had the running boards on, and came through the trail with zero damage with carefull spotting in parts.

I hope to run it with you some day, probably a few summers from now.

I have that tape too from Central 4WD where the Kent, WA. crew runs the trail.
Pretty good video of the area.

The one where my buddy Scott drives off the plank bridge ;) hehehehe I tease him about that every time I see him.

We will keep running it, at least once a year and probably more. Come play with us :)

Corey 03-17-2005 06:00 PM

Sounds good Rob, gotta get the truck fixed up first, and hopefully that will happen this summer.

Yeah, Scott is the guy who gave me a fantastic deal on my ARB bumper & winch.

Yeah, he gets ribbed about that little bridge a lot.

The snow pack through this part of the Cascades is deep and cold...
   Um, I was in the area this past Saturday, there's almost no snow to be seen. :(

Disclaimer: This observation does not mean the West end of the trail is open yet. Posted dates are posted dates. Of course we watched a couple dirt bikers totally ignore the posted signs. Well they didn't ignore them totally, the one guy stopped to explain to his buddy that the trail was indeed closed before they proceeded to continue on their way through it right in front of us. :pissed:

Good luck this year, my money is on the entire area being closed due to fire danger long before the trail reopens.

GRNTACO 03-18-2005 06:01 AM

Shane, is it me or are only a couple of those pictures of the actual Naches Trail? Most of them look like the trail to Kaner Flats/Shoe String? :dunno:

Those last two pages are questionable.

I dunno how I read your first message yesterday. I _did_ read it, but the comprehension switch must have been turned off.

sorry. :)
