Mountain Creek Truck Fest Mud Bog 10-22-2011
Videos to be posted, not sure when as I don't have em.
I traveled down there with the Red 5.0 Ranger. Native shake down for the truck. It didnt hold up. Front 3rd pinion bearing is shot and maybe the entire diff. Got stuck 2 feet in and was in 2wd the whole time. Also when loading the engine the fan took out the radiator as well. I tow strapped him back to the dolly. When he was trying to leave the F-150 U-Haul pickup got stuck and I tow strapped the U-haul AND The ranger bank to dry hard ground so he can leave. Sorry no photo.
The Zuk in the photos has a Mazda Carb'd rotory motor in it and is extended 1+ foot in the front and rear and has Yota axles. He eventually blew something in the engine.
The bigger Ford with full fenders blew out a transfer case and played in the mud the rest of the day in 2wd.
I thought I blew up the front 3rd or CV(s) on my last run but turned out to be just some medium sized rocks between my wheels and calipers. I never did get yanked outta the pit made it out in reverse under my own power on all 4 of my runs. Temp spiked on me only once on my first run. And was fine till I got most of the way home where it started climbing a little after I got off the highway into town.

This is a combo of 4 lo 1st, 4 lo second and 4 lo reverse at 5,000-5,500 rpm.
The launch was at 3,000 and you can kinda hear me hit the rev limiter. Yes rev limiter on the carb'd truck. I have the limiter set at 5750.
This for all you guys who really wanna see me hammer on this engine, hear my exhaust note and why I want that electric fan. :great

HOLY CRAPOLI, that poor lil sewing machine! lol... JK, I know they can run upside down with sand in there and a rod through the block, lol. Dude, seriously.... THAT MOTOR SOUNDS GREAT! BTW, ... is that the steering I hear squealing on occasion? Way to get out of the the sitch on your own, man! I wonder, ....if you had 2 big guys in there rocking back and forth, side to side.... would you probably keep going? hehe(Sorry, just curious.... I'm not a mud expert like yourself, lol). Oh yeah, .... WOW, that is one muddy Motor! Another question... Does it get in the carb? I see mud on the filter, and I'm sure it does it's job, ...just curious again, lol.

Yup that's that's the stupid steering pump and/or gearbox noise I was talking about. Each time it does it. I can feel that in the steering wheel. Makes it hard to tell if I hit the stops or not.
I don't get much past the air filter. But it does I am sure hamper the air intake some. I really wanna relocate that as well, but I'd have to fab a carb hat for an intake tube as I am not about to spend $200+ on the snorkel adapter. :shocked.
Looking at the video a few times and it's hard to tell, but I think when I shifted to second even though the truck jumped forward the driver rear tire might have stopped turning.

It's easier to get them to both spin in the mud yes. But if the tire happens to hit a wall or hole in the mud it could very well stop spinning, or simply the weight of the mud can force it to stop as well.
I think I need to start working the throttle a little more in these things it might help keep all 4 turning. By working I mean instead of constantly hammering down if I were to come on and off the throttle it might help. I did that in a few of the runs after this one, but my videographer left about an hour or so afterwards since their 5.0 Ranger broke.

Ahhh, ok. Well, also rocking the wheel seems to help.....but w/that steering, I'm guessing you're keeping that to a minimum, eh? lol. Also, you went even with your frame 'being questionable'? Be safe... and keep that thing from snappin, man!
5.0 Ranger, eh? My buddy had a gutted one and OMGOSHHHHH! lol. Thing was SO FAST!

Yeah wasn't worried about the minor bouncing around in the pit, now that hill-n-hole they had I avoided that this time.
That Ranger needs alot more work before I'd like to see the guy hammer on it. And by 5.0, maybe I should say 302 as it's a carb'd engine.

Nice pics and vids. That is some crazy thick looking stuff. 2 questions.
1. On the flat bed Toyota, are those Mud Rovers? If not, what are they?
2. On the a fore mentioned Toyota, how are the fog lights mounted in the front? Been looking for a way to do that on mine, but don't know where/how to mount them.

Thanks for the quick reply. Where did you buy the fog lights? They look like some the local Wal Mart around here sells and j.w how the "cheapies" held up. Seeing as I don't have the cash to spend on super expensive ones and I'm not a pro wheeler that will ever need 8,000,000,000 lumens. Lol

Bought them from Autozone, blazer brand they kinda suck, I did put silverstar ultra H3's in them which helped but they are also driving light and straight beam, I shoulda gotten he trapezoid/fog beam. I think they were like $30 but the bulbs are pricey.

Sweet. Looked like a lot of fun That Toy had some power to it. I went muddin' back in august, didnt get as muddy as you did though. The vids are on youtube now.Muddin in cherokee NC their called. Just wondering, what size motors where in the fords?
