Poor Adrain got a little shook up this weekend with some not-so-obvious-why lacks of success. One of the most dramatic was his attempt to do Double Whammy. The video shows what a beating his Rockware bumper endured:

Adrian, so this is what I heard around the canyon while working on Mike's radiator eh? Man I tell ya the sound of the pounding of metal and the tires screeching didn't sound that great from where we were. Sorry I missed all the fun on double whammy.

Robinhood150 10-11-2004 12:18 PM

So did he make it?

You guys better post up your pics in the calendar thread!

Actually, one of my highlights was watching you crazy 4th gen guys. I cant believe some of the stuff ya'll tried with such brand new 4runners. I'll definitly see ya'll at the next 4runner jamboree.

Assorted comments now that I am back in Wisconsin...

Bruce, I am sorry about the parking lot hi-jinks. You saved my butt and strapped me around when I broke, winched when I needed it and showed me some tricks to swap that broke axle. I am thankful for the help you lent and hope there is no ill will from what happened. Nothing was done with malice, only drunken exuberance, and thanks for leaving the valve covers neatly on the mirror.

It was a great trip, very focused on wheeling. I met some old friends and some new friends.

I only got off the trail before 10 pm once out of the 3 days with rescue missions and assorted stuff.

SteveO, let me know if you need more supervision, it was good to see you back in top form.

Schaefer, keep on spanking.

Jim, you've come a long way and I certainly like the way you are headed. Thanks for spotting.

Brown, sorry to bail on the highway, we just missed the dogs and the traffic, but it was worth a try.

Pete, I look forward to wheeling with you and drinking more beer in good scenery.

Jeff, let's do it again next year. This is the third trip your preparation has paid off. I will get the hub bolts back to you when I am back in town.

Mike and Lance, you wheeled the heck out of those new minivans and I was constantly impressed. Keep pressing forward with the new mods as you are surely helping many out.

Glad to meet y'all and hope we can do it again soon.

Well, made it back to Seattle in one piece (and without an additional speeding ticket!). Good to put faces to names. Thanks for all the great spotters throughout the weekend, and not razzing me too much for my "near death experience" on the first day...

I missed the first day, so what is this all about?

Mad Chemist 10-11-2004 04:23 PM

When Michael and I were returning to town to grab someone with a welder (to help fix Joe's broken steering shaft), I came close to rolling my vehicle. I came around a sharp corner/ledge, and my front right tire dropped into a hole and nearly pitched me on my lid. Some ballast on the back (Kyle) and some quick strap work by Michael helped to get all four tires back on the ground. I was pretty shaken up for the rest of the night/next day.

Flygtenstein 10-11-2004 04:47 PM

Larry and Tom, I will PM my CO cell when it is hammered out so I can hang with y'all again. Glad to see Brian's bumper getting a work out.

Mike Nevitt, thanks for supper, twice. Glad to put a name with a face.

Harry, you can ride passenger again whenever you need.

I was not wheeling well this weekend until the last day. Little rattled, but things are better. I pussed out on Double Whammy and should have just kept giving it.

Mike and David, thanks for running on the rescue, I was glad to BS on the waterfall with Micheal, sorry the rig is no longer sea worthy.

Albuquerque Jim 10-11-2004 07:45 PM

Wow! that was another great trip to Moab. I have so many props that I will probably miss a few, but here goes.

Jeff & Greg, thanks for putting this thing together! :bigok:

Steve Hunt, Steve Schaefer and Adrian, what more can I say...I appreciate your friendship and you 3 have helped me more than you know. You've taught me how to wheel. You've spotted encouraged me through some tight spots. And you are just a great group of guys to hang with. It never gets boring. I can't wait for the next trip...maybe AZ?

Lance (Goodtimes), thanks for the stickers

John Stavola, even though you couldn't come thanks for designing the logo for the gear

Dave and Larry, it was apparent that you guys had a great time. I enjoyed seeing you guys enjoying yourselves on the trail (even when I put you up a crazy line)

Michael, nice 4th gen. I hope it goes back together OK

Joe & Bob, it was a pleasure to meet, wheel, BS and put back a few cold ones with you two

Mike you are always fun to hang out with Viva la Bush!

Brent :booty: it is always a trip to hang with you :drink:

Mike (AZRAIN) thanks for the BBQ and especially for waiting for the 10 PM crew to get off Prichett

Lance (Big Head) it was nice to see you and your wife again. Next time she gets to drive too.

ORS guys, its always a blast to wheel with you guys, I hope Dave got off the trail OK

Bruce, sweet rig. I hope to see it function in the desert someday, I bet it kicks even more butt across the sand. I hope you handled all the ribbing in good spirit.

Well if I forgot anyone, I am sorry.

On to the pics:

This was probably the greatest wheeling accomplishment of my life. As you can see, Steve and Steve spotted my up and out of Hell's Gate (on Hell's Revenge) without a line.

But the best part of my trip was my (soon to be) wife Michelle wheeling for the first time.

And she loved it!

Here's some more pics

Well.

Jeff (the Marmot,) you wheel the wheeeee out of that silver bullet! Thanks for organizing such a fun event. Also thanks for jumping right in as a
leader and getting me out. Taught me a little more about what to stick in the tool bag and when to chill and just plain "get out."

Schaefer, riding in the back seat of your crawler, hauling up a neat little waterfall was interesting, bitchin' rig.

Adrian, pop in someday next time you're in town. We'll crack a few tasty beers and swap big game stories.

Joe, Steve (Hunt), Peter, great seeing you guys again.

Lance (Good Times), thanks bro, I'll buy you a beer or several in a week or so, I'll be in Orange County in a week or so. I'm also bringing a "Thank You." Harry will get one as well.

Lesseeeee, to everyone else, Jim, other Lance, Bruce, Michael (hope everything works out bud), Larry, Brent, Greg (your wife is way cool and your knowledge of Moab was very welcome to an inquisitive type like me) and all the folks that I'm sure I will meet again on the trails, thanks for having a good time and wheeling.

One more, Steve S., Jeff B., Greg F., Jim, Adrian, Michael, Kyle, Lance K., Lance U., and Harry... I personally witnessed the willingness to go out and help anyone broken down at any time. You guys rock.

I have a few pics, I'll post them soon. For those who didn't make it, it was a hell of a good run. Watch out for holes in Moab trails and deer in Blanding, UT.

Mike

Excellent trip guys. Great photos and video. I'm glad I didn't go, my 4R is still way too :baby: for trips like that. Besides looks like you guys had some serious carnage.

Maybe one day for me, I'll probably do the easier parts :)
