Lake Pleasant to Crown King run -13 Nov 04

Wow!

9 Toys showed up- including Blinks Super Charged Prerunner. The trail has changed for the better since last year- it's no longer "doable" with a 2x4.

I was impressed by what Doug got thru unassisted, but I will not recommend it to nor take another 2x4 thru again. The non-bypassable section, the steps at the top, require 4x4 and perhaps a tug to get thru. I think I hooked up a strap to 4 or 5 in our group- it's pretty nasty when even slightly damp. I couldn't get thru in 2x4, and I'd been able to previously.

I didn't see Tall Boy go by the Old Mill, so I doubled back up to Bradshaw City to make sure everyone was thru the trail. It started to snow like crazy up on top! Cool stuff- literally. Rained hard the rest of the way down the hill...

Hopefully some of the guys will post up some pic's...

Thanks to all who came out!

Later

Mark

yup! clear as the mud you were playin' in!

As others have mentioned, this was an awesome trip. We hit a variety of terrain, including but not limited to: Steep climbs, boulders, mud, precarious drop-offs, cactus, trees, and of course the rain; which made things very interesting in places.

Personally, I think the craziness award goes to Sick4runner who, with open diffs, attacked or attempted to attack just about anything Mark conquered in his Toy rockcrawler. According to Sick4runner, this was his first time wheeling this type of terrain. With open diffs he spun, bounced, slammed and stuffed his way to the top of nearly every gauntlet. I was impressed, as were others.

Paul was another wheeler that impressed myself and others. He was running the tan SA Toy (85?) with open diffs. I took the bypass on a couple hills, looked behind me, and Paul would be missing. Next thing I would know, he would be coming up the primary hill, slowly but sure-footedly. Nice work Paul.

Next on the list is our fearless Prerunner, Doug (blink). With the sweet silver SC'd 4-door Prerunner, he made it through stuff that most people wouldn't even try in their "4WD's." I have a new found respect for locked Prerunners.

AZ4ME was pretty fearless too. While I was sitting there asking myself how I got into this position, he would ask if he could go before me. He took my personal color favorite (silver) 4Runner up some crazy stuff without hesitation.

Everyone else did awesome and had a great time just like me I assume. Thanks again to Mark for putting this together and letting me drive his rockcrawler. Now that was fun!

OK, now for the pics. I have full size photos of all these. I also have a few more of the same people. PM me if you want a full size. I have some videos too, but they have no sound - and hearing the frame bash the rocks is half the fun! So I will skip that.

Approaching the hardest climb of the day. Most of us had to be pulled through it. Thanks Mark!

good pic's!

Christian, the pictures come up and look awesome.

Id like to make a shout to christian, for spotting me through the rought sections of this trail,to mark for providing me with this unforgetable experience and the much needed tugs, and to everyone else for having patience with my poor 2x4 vehicle :)

rimpainter.com 11-15-2004 07:42 AM

I just added one of my favorite shots of your rig Mark. Sorry I forgot it originally!

crawler#976 11-15-2004 09:38 AM

guess I musta broke my gas guage sending unit somewhere along the way...

It's a good excuse to upgrade my flatbed- I've got to cut it out from the top. Think I'll use aluminum decking instead of the 16G steel, should take a few pounds off the rear suspention.

You guys all rock! :rockin:

Mark thanks again for puttin on another great trip!

Greg

crawler#976 11-15-2004 10:40 AM

nice pic's Greg-

the Old Mill was too spendy- $8.95 for a burger, $3.50 for a draught Petrafied Porter (from the Prescott Brewing Co.). I'll be eatin' at the CK saloon from now on, like I usually do.

AzStorm 11-15-2004 10:41 AM

What a fantastic trip!!

I only had to be pulled through one section which surprised me seeing as my suspension is completely stock.Ive made up my mind that a SAS is the way to go and will be working to get that done prior to any more outings.

A better trip couldnt have happened. There wasnt any major trail carnage,no injuries,no major stucks,a great bunch of guys to go wheeling with and the assistance and guidance from Mark was awesome!!

Excellent shots Christian!

Heres a few wifey and I took.

Nice pic's Storm!

I'm amazed what a couple inches of rain can do the the Sonoran Desert- it's greened right up!

Thanks!

We need more rain and tons of snow this year to get us caught up.I hope it happens,Ive never wheeled in the snow.

AZ4ME 11-15-2004 02:48 PM

Nice pics to complement a mighty fun run.

KING 11-15-2004 08:28 PM

Looks like I missed out on a good one.

Hopefully, more runs like this will take place in the future.

rimpainter.com 11-15-2004 08:33 PM

Jesus-

Word on the street is that our next run will be to play in the snow. You down?

:readit:

KING 11-15-2004 08:36 PM

Of course!

Maybe it can be on a Sunday this time?

You get your locker wired up yet, Christian?

Didn't see any pictures of your rig in action, 'sup with that?

rimpainter.com 11-15-2004 08:40 PM

Yes, the locker is hooked up and working great. I can engage it in "2WD" which is nice. I will never wheel without a locker again.

Yeah, no pictures of my rig. I was too busy taking them of the other guys. Besides, I couldn't get out and take a picture on the really tough stuff. Man was it slick!

Lots of fun...

KING 11-15-2004 08:48 PM

Never wheel without a locker again?

Rub it in, man, it's OK! :moon:

blink 11-15-2004 09:06 PM

Thanx for the kind words christian, but seriously if it wasnt for your persistance, I wouldnt have come in the first place :rockin: Sure i didnt bring water, or food, or warm cloths, but the 7 hours trip.... i cant explain to everyone how awesome it was. Maybe with a huge lift and tires i can talk mark into letting me go next time :

btw my new avatar rocks!
