Don't follow the rules, die, and make the local news

How easy is it to roll a SUV in the sand? I did not know they allowed vehicles on the beach in Assateague.

Baltimore Co. Woman's Body Found On Assateague Island

UPDATED: 6:08 am EST February 9, 2005

ASSATEAGUE, Md. -- Authorities have positively identified the second body found near Assateague Island.

Authorities on Monday morning found the body of the woman, who the National Park Service said Tuesday was positively identified as the individual in the missing person’s report, Jennifer Holly Ashe, 24, of Baltimore.

Park officials said Holly is the same woman reported missing Sunday to the Baltimore County Sheriff's Department.

On Sunday morning, surfers located a body at a beach area closed to off-road vehicles, which authorities later identified as Adam Starky, 25, of Cockeysville. His severely damaged 2004 Hummer vehicle was recovered from the surf, park officials said.

The pair was last seen leaving Holly's home for a four-wheeling trip to the Eastern Shore.

Park rangers think Starky was off-roading when his vehicle crashed and flipped over. Rangers said speed was the likely cause of the roll-over and they are encouraging other off-road drivers to obey the 25 mph speed limit in the area.

National Park Service officials told 11 News that OnStar, a in-car traveler's service, contacted the Worcester County Sheriff's Department with a call around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday. Worcester County authorities then contacted park officials, but they could not locate the source of the distress call.

Both bodies have been sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Baltimore for autopsies.

You can drive on the beach at Assateague Island. You have to pay for a beach permit. Here is a link to the NPS Assateaugue Island ORV Info
