Crown King 1-31-05

Went up to Crown King with my buddy and his truck and mine. Got to the first uphill climb before getting on the actual Crown King trail and had to pull a Tacoma with a trailer up the hill due to it being extremely muddy out there. He couldnt get ANY traction with stock tires and a trailer. Got on the trail and it was quite muddy. Most of the hill climbs were not muddy though, and the extra wetness made for alittle more traction on the otherwise loose gravel. However, it was another story when we got to the rock hill climb with no bypass. 8 jeeps all had to winch up it. We ran into one Jeep Rubicon coming back from the hill and he said he didnt even think of attempting it after seeing the others having to winch up. I saw one dirt biker put his bike on its side coming down it. At the bottom it was solid mud, probably 10 inches deep in places. The right line was unbelievably slippery, I took the line up the middle with the huge ruts and rocks because I was for sure I would slip off the right line and into the middle section. I was able to get about halfway up then as I proceeded to climb up to the right it wasnt happening. Generally this is an easy climb when dry even for a stock toyota 4x4, but with 35s and solid axles it was rough, not to mention my tires were caked with mud, traction was minimal at best even with a rear spool. Other than that hill, I would imagine the rest of the trail not being too bad except for maybe a couple problems for stock vehicles on the ledge where the trail is extremely narrow along that cliffside. Great adventure though...would have liked to have made it to the top, looked like there would be tons of snow up there.

?????

No pictures. Yea the bottom con be really muddy after a storm. The trail after the rock ledge is washed out as of 12/31/04 but passable with good tire placement. Last time I was up there it cost me 20 bucks to get the mud off the truck.

Yeah, pics man!

I am still recovering from my last trip up there. Not sure if I will even do it again.

forgot to mention...

yeah it cost me 13 dollars at the powerspray in Cave Creek to clean all the mud off and I probably still have a good amount left on the undercarriage, I pulled in right as they were cleaning out the bays too, about 9pm. They werent too happy...

We do have some pictures and videos but they are on my friends camera, will try to post this weekend.

Also, I forgot to mention that while approaching the rock hill, my buddy happened to catch a glimpse of a white object in the bushes as I drove by, he said he saw a dildo...of course I didnt believe him, but we stopped and he jumped out and checked it out...sure enough there was a white dildo laying in the brush just off the trail about 5 feet. He took a picture of it, came out blurry however. Makes me wonder what some of you guys do out there...
:dunno: haha

yeah that was my buddy in his stock 4runner, during christmas time we went up crown king when it was dry and he was able to tackle all the difficult hills in that truck...but not without a few bruises underneath...but it was impressive...
