Colorado Wheeling

There is a post about wheeling alone here and that is my new problem. It’s dangerous, dumb and what I’ve done twice this year. I’ve been itching to test out my new lockers / gears and 33’s. My most recent trip was to Moon Gulch in Rollinsville and I was only able to do about 1 mile of the trail before too much snow. Is anyone planning a trip in the Idaho Springs area? I have a few trails in mind. And if anyone knows of passable trails this time of year let me know. I want semi tough trails but I have no armor yet. Pitch in some trail reports if you have any to share.

Trail Report Moon Gulch – May 9th 2009… Snow right after sign that says end of maintained road. May 24th 2009… Snow one mile into it… not impassable with supplemental equipment

West Magnolia – May 24th 2009… Closed due to wet conditions.

And according to Traildamage.com Barbour Fork (Idaho Springs) is closed until June 14th (Wild Life Closure every year)

Spring Creek

Date 5/30/2009 -Who knows the Spring Creek Trail Area? I read that it was open on cottora.org . I used traildamage.com for directions but missed the trail on the right side… I continued to go left until it was too scary to turn around. Determined to make it to the top so I could take an easy trail home, I continued until there was no more trail and it was nearly impossible too turn around. My wife hates me now. Does anyone know this path? It’s very steep and rocky.

Thanks

Don't be afraid to reply... I've given up on the need for a 4x4 friend. Who knows about the trails in the Spring Creek area? Specifically the ones to the left after the camping areas and after the trail goes right... there is a torched steel sign where the trail goes right. Have you climed this hill? Anyone?

You REALLY should post up on www.cottora.org - we have a pretty active group 'wheeling almost every weekend.

You DEFINITELY do not want to do Spring Creek alone your first time!

I'll try to get in with one of the cottora trips. Thanks.

Have you ever gone left there after the steel sign past the mine along silver creek (I think it is)?
