Great pictures! Did you think Black Bear pass was "that bad"?"

4Hummer 09-01-2004 12:34 PM

Nice Pictures.

All that rock climbing on fully inflated tires ?? Wow I air my tires down to 14 psi when wheeling rocks.

Beautiful scenery... Wish we had stuff like that around here.

I didn't, but my wife was pretty freaked out. The Ranger station had to tell her about the 2 people that were killed on it this year, that plus we were doing it alone, made her pretty scared. It was harder this year than any of the last 6 years we've done it, but really Poughkeepsie is harder than Black Bear. It's just if you make a mistake on Black Bear you will fall 1000 feet before you stop.

I was aired down to about 17-18 psi the whole time. The side walls on my BFGs are pretty stiff though. I had a flat tire once and it just looked a little low looking at it.

Looks like you had fun!

We'll be at Poughkeepsie Glutch, weather and time permitting, next week Thursday. Gonna be running the Apline Loop from the Lake City side.

Lots of fun! Watch out on Poughkeepsie if it's muddy, we had to turn back last year because of the slick yellow clay on the steepest part of the trail. You need to hit it in dry weather to make it to the top.

crawler#976 09-01-2004 02:36 PM

yeah, gonna have to be carefull since we're running solo-

Nice images.

I like your set up, though it's calling for some rock crawlers.

So many places to visit, so little time.

hey mt_goat
nice truck you got, definatley one of the nicest pickups i;ve seen, but i was wondering your total amount of lift you have, i see you have a 4 inch lift with a 1" BL and a 1.5 in spcer, so does that give you 5 inches in the rear and 6.5 in the front? and you have 33x12.5 MTs i see and what size rim? i am just wondering your setup because i have a 2 inch BL on my 89 22RE and i want to add a 4 inch suspension and have either 33's or 35's but i want to keep some power so i was thinking just 33's, oh and hows the gearing with the 5.29s and 33's? seems like its a little low geared
nice pics too bye the way, i live close to the rockies and the coriboo mountains in BC and i love the sights
thanks
cody

Thanks, if you count the BL it's about 6" in the front and back. The truck is level. I have a 10x15" rim. Actually since I have an auto tranny the 5.29's/ 33's are a little too high. 5.71's are better for the 3.slow/auto/33's set-up IMHO. I can't speak for the 5-speed tranny/gearing. I bet it's nice in BC!

Memphis_Yota 09-01-2004 11:16 PM

ya i love the look of your truck, before i thought that 33's would look too small with a 6 inch lift but now i love it, looks real sharp, so you think your need taller gears? i would think that even with the auto that 5.29's would be perfect for 33's but hmmm, well how do you think my truck ( 22RE) would perform with 5.29's? would i be reving at 5 grand to go 120 Km/h on the highway or do you even know? lol ya its beautiful in BC, i take it your in colorado?, i got about on hour drive and i am right in the cariboo mountains, i can see them from above my house in the distance, great snowmobiling country, we get about 30 feet of snow up there or more in the winters,
where did you get your fender flares from? and how much?
thanks
cody

Thanks I like it too, I guess you have a 5 speed? I really can only speak from experiance about the auto tranny. But yes the 5.71's are real nice with 33's/auto/3.slow combo, I ran with them for 40,000 miles before the 5.71 rear pinion gear got wasted.

I am in Oklahoma, these are our vacation pics. Colorado is a 1 day drive from me.

The fender flares are Bushwackers, I can remember where I got them, I know it was about 1997.

I'd love to go heli-sking up in BC! You don't happen to have a heli-sking operation do you? :D

Yeah, Hot Springs. The Trail Chasers Club is going there. I've never been, but I'm thinking about it.

Nice pictures, MT Goat. :)I was worried about Black Bear when I was wheeling in CO last year since my truck was stock and never wheel before. Guess I am going to try this september :)
