Big Bear Aug 12-14

Had a lot of fun this trip, the lake was as full as I have ever seen it, weather couldn't have been any better. Did John Bull friday night with an former comp buggy, we finished the trail in 25 minutes.
Saturday, the crew from ESPN arrived with their very "HOT" show host Rebecca Grant.

After some filming in camp, we headed out to Holcomb creek trail, the film crew and staff rode in my rig. Lyle got the honors of having Rebecca as his co-pilot Travelling through a section of rocky creek bed Lyle pulled the front driveshaft apart in the maiden run of his SAS'ed Taco. apparently he was supposed to have had a long slip yoke and it turned out to be a standard one.

Well that scared Rebecca a bit and she didn't want to ride with him, so the director told her to ride with him and the flim crew. That was fine, now I got the sexy babe as my co-pilot.

We continued to the rock slab, where earlier back in camp, Rebecca mentioned that she wanted to get vertical, I said good! I have the perfect spot. Once we arrived, the crew got out to film, as I drove up the face, then came back around and handed my rig over to her. After a little hesitation and some coaxing from her crew and myself, she finally attempted it and was screamming at the top when she made it.

Then we headed down the trail to the end, where I got highcentered and needed to winch.

On the way back a Honda was on the wrong side of the trail going around a blind turn, we approached head on and I was over to the right as far as I could go when we hit,

well I should say I used his car as an RTI ramp.

And of course our imfamous campfire

Here's a few screenshots from the video my son took;

I have some photos from the "medium" trail run. You can find what I was able to take here.

I spent most of the time running back and forth with Tyler the trail leader and staffer for TTORA SoCal checking on trail conditions and doing some spotting for those coming trhough after me. Long day and White Mtn. was a deal breaker for five trucks that chose to turn around. The trail was washed out created fairly deep ruts from the heavy rains this past winter. It's not a difficult trail as in rock climbing and such but if your truck isn't in good shape you might not make it. It's a steep climb up most of the way in first gear low causing a situation where you could overheat. My truck was pretty tired by the top and stalled on a few occasions where i clutched in to stop for the trail leader. It fired up like a champ though each of the three times it did that to my relief though. We were still out on the trails long after the hard run finished even with filming if I recollect.

One of the reasons I "pussed out" and went on the medium run was to not get caught up in all the filming crap since I figured it would take all day. We took all day but everyone got back to camp that finished the trail with a smile on their face saying they had a good time. It had some good challenges and everyone pitched in to make it passable for those comfortable enough to continue on. Those that chose not to had to turn around where they could and head back to camp.

Fun trip and it was amazing to see the lake full. The weather was great and the scenery never fails to blow me away. It seemed like we were the only major traffic on Gold and White mountain so we were only waiting on our own group to make it through everything and had no pressure from people waiting behind us. Good trip.

There's some more pictures over at TTORA SoCal being posted here.

You'll need to have a login I believe and be able to withstand the design nightmare that is the Delphi forums.

I had a blast, and it was nice having some other 4runners along with all the Tacos. Robt2k, Echamberlin, Bruce TS, and I made up the runner squad and schooled the tacos.

Hopefully Matt will post up the pics he took.

Sweet pics! I just hate it when people drive on the wrong end of the trails. If it's one way then it's ONE WAY! If you can't do the obstacles then don't get on it in the first place.

That looks like the civic was on the right side of the road, big bear isn't in England.
Those roads aren't one way and aren't just for 4x4's.

It was just another case of "Bruce Gone Wild"

It was good to meet Rob and Bruce. Bruce thanks for letting me ride shotgun on John Bull Friday night, very cool trail and very funny listening to the guys in the back seat get pounded. You hit a car? Glad I missed that. Rob and Marc, I am leaving Wed to drive to VA for school until Oct. I will look you guys up for some fall wheelin runs when I get back. Thanks for all your help and advice with the new runner. She did great! Like it lots more than the Taco!!!!

She is not ugly! It was funny because she had on cami pants, super tight and didn't realize that the top button was not buttoned. With the tight black shirt she was wearing it kinda showed her "lower area".... yeah. I think we all thought it was part of her filming outfit (super model type clothes) until she noticed it and got all red faced and buttoned it up looking around to see if anyone had seen it. We did. Nice lady though, very down to earth.

Actually he was driving right down the middle, when I came around the blind turn. I braked, he braked and slid more into my lane, giving me nowhere to go. That photo was taken after he had pulled his front bumper completely off and popped the hood to make sure nothing was hitting, then he started his car and moved it over to the right. As you can see there was plenty of passing room.

montypower....... the only visible damage to my 4runner was the alignment got knocked out and the tabs bent over. Still not too sure if the frame got bent yet......

bulldog-yota........

Here's a photo my son took before his car was moved, you can clearly see there was no room for me to get by.......
