Power solutions

Well ive got a couple hours into this so far (4hours) . Not sure what to call it, but I know what it is. Check out "goal 0" for solar power solutions for some good comparisons to this thingy. I decided to build my own for 2 reseons, customization, and price. Mine is alot cheaper and does the same thing, actually better.

Just starting the thread here, theres a lot more to this thing.

Its going to have:

1. Internal led lighting
2. Digital voltage gauge
3. 350w pure sine wave inverter
4. 2 X cigarette lighter plug-ins
5. solar panel interface, (internal 7amp charge controller)
6. 22AH sealed lead acid battery.
7. Can be paralleled with other battery's (option)
8. Internal 110V -12V 3amp 3stage smart charger.
8. And is pretty small to boot.

Again I just started this thing, and just wanted to share. So lots more to come on this.

Alright its all done. Works awesome.

Charger indicator, 2 color led. Green for charged/maintaince mode, and orenge for charging. Behind that really nice led work light.
-
-

The parallel, and solar panel hookup's.
Still gotta put some + and - stickers on those. The big connectors on the bottom are for attaching any 12v battery. It automatically switches from the internal battery to the one hooked up to run the inverter. The 2 smaller posts are for solar panels. It has an internal solar charge controller 7amp 100watt max.
-
-

This is neato, when its connected to another battery it can be charged form that battery, by connecting the internal charger to the internal inverter. Since in this state the internal battery is disconnected from the inverter. hope I explained that right.
Or the external battery can simply run the inverter.

Really nice and bright. And uses hardly any power.

Im sure you can spot some of the oops's with the plexi glass. Like the fan holes, and a few crooked screws. It wasnt easy, plexi glass can be tough to work with.

350 pure sine wave inverter $150
22ah sealed battery $55
soniel 3amp charger $55
solar control $20
plex glass $40 + or -
12v sockets $10
stainless handle $10
led lights $10
Heavy duty relay $25
misc hardware,wiring, other. $25 ish.

Total estimated cost: $400

And its still allot cheaper then any one you can buy that will do all the things this does while looking this cool.

So...it's like one of those glorified jump starters. Except way more expensive than some you can buy right off the shelf that would outperform it.

Like the one below that's half the price($206.84) and does everything yours does(minus one 12V outlet). But with a stronger 28 amp hour battery and a more powerful 600W inverter. Plus an AM/FM radio, digital alarm clock, and an LED flashlight to boot.

Duracell

DPP-600HD

Powerpack 600 Jump Starter & Emergency Power Source << with Radio! >>

The Duracell Powerpack 600 features an internal sealed, non-spillable 28 amp-hour AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) battery for reliable power delivery and recharging capability. This heavy duty power source operates multiple 120-volt AC household power applications and 12-volt DC applications (charging portable electronics devices) simultaneously with ease.

Offering 280 CCA (Cold Cranking Amps) of starting power, the Duracell Powerpack 600 can jump-start most 8-cylinder vehicles without connecting to another vehicle or external power source.

A built-in LED light also provides bright illumination, while an integrated AM/FM clock radio provides access to news and other important information.

The Powerpack 600 can be safely and conveniently recharged from any household AC outlet, DC cigarette lighter outlet or even from a solar panel, so that it’s ready to go whenever you need it. The Duracell Powerpack 600 is an ideal companion for job sites, camp sites, or as a quiet, cost-effective emergency backup power source.

Please note: The internal battery does not arrive charged. Refer to the Powerpack users' manual for charging instructions. Please charge the battery fully before using the Powerpack for the first time.

Product Features
  • Contains three three-pronged AC outlets (480-watt continuous / 600-watt peak) to power multiple devices, appliances and tools
  • Contains one DC outlet which can be used to both power devices and recharge the HD600 unit
  • Built-in 600-watt power inverter, 5-watt flashlight, overload/over-temperature protection and reverse polarity detection
  • Sealed, non-spillable 28 amp hour AGM battery and detachable alligator clamps for jump-starting cars (up to 8-cylinder); non-returnable; refer to users' manual for charging instructions
  • Built-in AM/FM radio and digital alarm clock.
Key Applications

At Work

  • Operates small power tools
  • Radio news, music and clock for work site
  • Provides illumination for work site
  • Indoors and Outdoors
  • Powers camcorders, video games, stereos, computers and TVs

Pretty much. Except thats a modified wave inverter. I couldnt find any of them with pure sine wave inverters. And besides the plexi glass im sure most of those parts in mine are better quality. Ive had a few of those jumper boxes that didnt last very long. I mostly did it cause i had half the stuff layin around. And i wanted an inverter that wont kill a laptop.

And you can hook up any 12v battery outside mine and run the inverter in case the internal battery dies. Cant do that with any other ones.

Sooo ya. Unless someone can show me one that does what mine does for around the same price or less, theen really dont give a hoot.

List one that has

1. Pure sine wave inverter
2. style
3. actuall charger/tender
4. a led flashlight that actually makes "light" you can use. (cause those jumper box ones are equivalent to a key chain light)
5. a real solar charge controller, and solar hook up, (not just claiming you can charge it with a solar panel, cause you can charge anything with a solar panel, but not very well without a charge controller. Plus youll end up over charging it and taking years off the battery.)
6. It cant be the size of a great dane.
7. serviceability. (I can easily order a new battery. Then install it very easily.)
8. Option for aux battery to run inverter externally while charging internal battery. ( not just 12v cigaret lighter charge option) cause the doesnt help with immediately power needs.
9. PRICE

If anybody can find something that takes the cake in those areas, then I'm a fool.

Mine did cost more then some of the stupid walmart lookin ones,, but hey yota tech, you can buy a kia, and or hyundai for lots cheaper then a yota. So they are clearly a better option. Im selling my toyota and buying 3 kia's.

Just kiddin, I wouldnt do that, but for real here, Ill word it for the kids out there, this is a better thingy than those other thingy's.

Haha just saw this one. They must be joking:
http://www.google.com/imgres?q=solar...:36,s:20,i:252

And this big box with only 36ah and a 300watt modified wave inverter
http://www.ecvv.com/product/2606915.html

This one im just not even sure about. It doesnt list battery size, but it comes with a 40W solar panel for alot of $$.
http://www.greenbaba.com/portable-so...-40w-p-71.html

Or you could just get a solar table for $3,600 and cook your laptop while your at it.
http://www.laptoppicker.com/archives...generator.html

Some of this stuff is just

Only one I found so far with a pure sine wave inverter. Theres no list price, this one has a large battery in it, which is cool, but its still pretty big. And lacks external battery options.
