Back in the day in norcal we would contact eacother on 17 then if you had a galixey we would talk on 27.195mhz or 30mhz . If you did not have a raido with frequincys like a galixy or rci ranger you could have extra freq instaled in you cobra raido by a goo d cb guy. Ill be listening on 6 i to see if this catches on in new hampshire. What up rattlewagon whare do you wheel in vt mabie ill come over the river and check you guys out

Channel 6 is full of high power crap where I live. Sacramento,ca. But I hear broadcasts from Alabama, Dakota, etc. I just got a cb and I'm having a hard time picking up anything but ch 6 and some Spanish talk on 11 and 13.
I find myself on logging roads here in Oregon on my way to my gold placer mines. There are many log trucks at times and so I needed a CB to communicate. With a CB you can keep in touch with trucks coming down the road, or up, and know when to haul ass and when to pull over.
I bought a Uniden 510 XL Pro, a 4 foot Firestik adjustable tip antenna, an SS-204 door edge swivel mount w/K4 Stud, an SS-3M medium duty spring, and the terminal end wire 18 foot to use with K4 stud. All for about $100.00.
Basically as pictured I set the mount between the rear door on drivers side ( 4screws). I wired the terminal ends to the cable and attached the ground ( See pic) and notched out the upper rear tail light to run the coax through. Inside the rear light space I made a small slit in the rubber seal that is used for the rear tail light wires then sealed it back up with liquid rubber.
I ran the wire in the body area where jack is up to the back seat behind the panels, then at 90 degree's turned the wire to lay under the rear seat ( covered with soft rubber padding then duct taped down neatly) into the other side of panel on passenger side. From there I worked the wire under the passenger door trim then back across under the floor cover to back of radio. It was exactly 18 foot -YEA!
My truck had a quartz clock there under the stock radio. I removed that and used the power and ground wire that went to the clock and wired to CB. I had to shave a bit off the clock mount but got it centered and fit to perfection. ( See pics) I used an existing screw mount to put one screw in to hold the transmission microphone down tightly drilling no holes into panel there.
When I set up a SWR meter initially at the height in the picture with spring attached ( adding height) my channel 1 read 1.4 and my channel 40 measured .08. I removed the rubber tip off the end of the cable and turned the adjustable screw 1 turn at a time and tested. At about 2 and 3/4 turns my measurements were a perfect 1:1 both on channel 1 and channel 40. I replaced rubber tip.
I then called a friend who lives about three miles away from my house and we could communicate perfectly. This is in the city too with many hills, transmission wires, and houses between.

If you do a CB take note on height of my antenna mount on back tail gate measuring up 4 feet plus spring. At that total height you could place the antenna anywhere on truck and get similar results. 1:1 is as good as it gets and utilizing the full 4 watts
