Any Shortwave listeners out there?

I just recently picked up a Field Radio and I've dabble with trying to find something to listen to, but I can't seem to find anything. I was hoping someone out there had a favorite station or two they could turn me on to. A specific frequency would be nice (hint hint).

Does that radio let you listen to any radio station or something? I have never heard of these!

Think of HAM radio without the ability to transmit, only listen. There are stations throughout the world the broadcast in these frequencies in order to make use of 'skip' to bounce the signal around the globe...ergo "worldband".

I use to "really" be into it back in the early 70s.
I had a Halicrafters S 129 model.

I had a 150' antenna outside my bedroom, and I use to listen to broadcasts from all over the world.

That old model used tubes in it, but it was considered a very good radio back in the day.
I use to listen to hams, CB ship to shore, you name it.
Plus foreign broadcasts from other countries.

If you Google shortwave stations, I am sure you will come up with some frequency charts.

tried checking around on stations with my export rig, but couldn't really find anything. i searched around on the freqs that most internet forum users posted up on, with no luck.

my rig is old school, so no freq sweeps or electronic scan functions. i would guess that timing is probably the most important determinant of cq than anything else, unless you *know* when people will be on.

Back in the day when I use to listen as a kid, I would tune it at night to some frequency about 15 minutes before the show aired.
They would play a short tune that would repeat itself over and over to let you know they were about to go live.

Many stations were not up 24/7 back then, so you would have to write to them and they would mail you a card with their frequencies and times on it.

The station I am referring to above was in Hilversum Holland.
They spoke the broadcast in English too.

You can also get a card that goes into your PC that will turn it into a shortwave radio.
At least they had them several years ago.
