Speaker sizes in 4Runner

Now that I have a nice new $100 Sony CD player I would like to upgrade my speakers in my 4Runner. The stock ones are very tired. Are these sizes correct?

-Front in dash: 4"
-Rear in wall: 6x9"
-Rear tweeters (in celing): 2"

If I am wrong please edumakate me (car audio is not my thing).

Thanks!
Lamm

In your 95'? Yea, the fronts are 4" but the rears are 5 1/4" with no tweaters. Thoes slots in the top are vents although I always thought it would be cool to put tweaters there.

BTW, 6 1/2" are the largest you can fit in the rear behind the paneles but in doing so you have to do a little modifying. The stock speakers are mounted in boxes that make them sound better so the 5 1/4" in the stock box will likely sound as good or better as the 6 1/2" without the box. Anyway, here is what I did.

I definetly have speakes in the top.

In my 92 I never had rear speales that worked because there was a "system" in when I bought it that i promptly removed.

The "tweeters" I am talking about are not oh the wall of the cargo area, but in the grille area on the buldge on the rear celing that contains the cargo area light.

No doubt in my mind there are speakers there.

So 1 vote for 6x9s, 1 vote for 5.25"s

Are those right behind the seat? Speakers can go in there?! I just though it was another vent. Did you close off your cargo spaces or whatever they are at the very back by the tailgate? I have 6x9's in there. And in there I mean the cargo area.

Thanks Miles!

I'm pretty sure if you did all that you would know they are 5.25"

I'm not looking to have an awsome system, just get rid of my old, crackley paper speakers.

So are the rears 5 1/4' or 4 1/2 " ???

They look like 4.5 in the picture. Will a 5.25" screw right in?

Thanks!

when i redid the system in my 92 4runner, i had them put 3.5" boston acoutics in the stock location in the dash and had boston acoutic 6x9s custom mounted in the rear of the cargo area. I had to cut the plastic pannel to get them to fit, and also had to soundproof the entire cargo area to stop the sheet metal from vibrating.

Oh man, those stockers are blah, I usedmine as frisbees when I pulled them out. Now that I know I can fit 5 1/4" Back there, guess what I'm doing this week. Considering I have a brand new set of Pioneer 5 1/4" that I was gonna try to find a spot for in the runner. Thanks Miles

My 94 had 4" up front and 5 1/4" in the rear and tweets above the back window. I could never find the wires for the tweets so I have my back two speakers and the tweets spliced together and running off the back two channels of my deck. Amazing what replacing the speakers can do for ya

So...

4" in dash
5 1/4" in rear
and the infamous mystery tweeters... Time to go shopping.

I got a set of 5 1/4 pioneers That did not fit in the stock rear location. I was doing both the front and rear at the same time, and the 4 inch front speakers were barely big enought to fit in the rear speaker box. I would say the measurments of 4.5" are accurate, the problem is finding a speakers that are 4.5 inches to would fit in the rear speakerbox. I cant remember exactly, but i think the rear tweeters are around 2 or 3 inches.this is all on my 94

I was looking at that one when I was thinking I needed XM radio (used to have Sirrus), but I decided against it in the end.
