My speakers...

... let me show you them

My speakers...-sd9jxet.png

Finished yesterday and chrisom'd last night with a 100 person dance party pointed at the beach. 4runner is a huge success among friends. Tons and tons and tons of compliments on the truck. Even got to pop a curb to get to a secret location which was a breeze

It is a two way system, biamped with JL audio hd1200 for subs and hd600 for tops crossed over at 1.2khz. Dual FaitalPRO 15HP1060 15" in a 140L enclosure tuned to 38hz for a 38hz F3 and 30hz frequency range in the subs.. Blastoff! Tops are FaitalPRO HF144 compression drivers with 90x60 degree constant directivity horns. Welded a custom clip mount to attach the HF drivers to the roll bar which came in handy when the cops showed up.

Also did a quick custom fab of a truck bed cover using some old cordura I had laying around and some framing wood. Cut the framing wood to fit the cargo area then stapled the cordura into it. Not necessary a permanent solution but definitely effective for hiding a most illegal sound system (to use ). Took me about 90 minutes to make! Bolts in using the stock bolt holes for the hard top.

The friends are very pleased with me to say the least, we had a great time last night! This truck is officially ready for the desert!

EDIT: forgot to mention, the PA system is completely removable. Everything from the amps, crossovers, voltage source filter, and battery is self contained in the sub box for easy removal. Battery isolator switch is mounted in the cab to connect to the PA battery and charge it up. Power connection is good for 150A continuous (upgraded alternator to handle it as well), using an anderson 375A 4awg connector to attach the box in the cargo area. I probably won't keep this in the truck on a normal day to day basis, believe it or not I actually do not prefer to listen to my music loud while driving.

Wowza...nice set-up. Sweet looking rig.
What makes the system illegal? A bit too many dBs, I suppose.

Well it's not illegal to have per se, but it is illegal to use in a public space without a permit. Definitely high on the dB level.. I stayed behind it most of the night- not just when I was DJing.

The rear cover is a work in progress for sure. I think I want to make an insert style rather than a bolt in.. I'm thinking I'll take some 1/2" conduit or mild steel and bend it around to fit the inside and wrap the fabric around it with a tensioner on the underside to keep it taught from all angles. Then I can just pop the frame out when not in use.

But yes, I like the cover very much. I'll be keeping this one on there even though it's kind of half-effort... still works and looks nice!

holy crap. my runner needs this setup.

Do you have more pics of the box? I assume you don't have the truck running while the system is playing? So it just runs off a deep cycle battery? Any idea how long you can play on one charge? Do you have an inverter in there to power the dj setup?

Interesting that your subs are playing 1200hz and lower. Are you missing mid range? Does your bass hit hard? (our parties are all electronica so we need to feel that bass, haha)
