Installing Stereo

Hey guys, I'm trying to install an aftermarket headunit in my '00 4runner and instead of the two wiring harnesses I found one 20-pin harness. So I have the wrong harnesses, but I'm pretty sure I know what harness to get now.

But also there were two cables that plugged into jacks on the back of the factory radio. Does anyone know what these are? I don't know what to do with them.

I've got more problems now. The two plugs are plugged into the factory amp so I unplugged them and hooked them up to my wiring harnesses. Two problems now: Just static for the radio and it says no tuner, but the power antenna still goes up; the bigger problem is when I played a cd I got music but I also got a clicking sound, I'm guessing from the cd motor, and then it just started skipping like crazy.

Any ideas? One of those two mystery cables must be for the radio. Does the cd motor problem sound like a ground issue?

I need a lot of help, thanks!

I'm guessing one of the mystery cables is the antenna (would explain lack of reception). The problem is the harness has a wire for the power antenna but not for this reception cable. How do I get reception if there's nowhere to plug or splice this antenna cable in?

there should be the antenna wire and wiring harness coming out the back of the stock radio. you said there were 2? and that your antenna goes up and down?

It's a brand new unit, bought from ebay a couple months ago.

The power antenna is hooked up and works but there's no reception, which I'm guessing one of the two cables (not the harnesses) is responsible for.

Install help

Hey guys, I tried installing a new headunit today and have a couple issues.

One is the I'm getting no reception. The power antenna works and moves up and down, just no signal.

Second is when playing a cd there's music but the motor makes an awful clicking sound when it's playing a cd and then starts skipping like crazy. Is the cd motor shot on this thing, it's brand new?

Also what are the two cables that plug into jacks (not the harnesses)? I'm guessing one is the antenna and the reason I'm not getting reception. There's no jack for it on my new stereo. No idea what the other plug is.

Thanks for any help

Thanks, didn't know there was a specific section for audio.

Well, I tried a new disc and the cd player is fine. The disc had some very light scratches and my god that thing sounded nasty. I still don't know how to get radio reception though. I connected the power antenna wire from the stereo to the blue power antenna cable on the harness and the antenna moves up and down but no reception.

Would love any help so I can put everything back together in my car
