85 Pickup: What are these stereo wires for?

Hey y'all,

After my 1985 Toyota 2wd Pickup was stolen a while back, they cut all the wires of the stereo, and destroyed the console which made my re-install...adventurous.
I finally got the new radio to work, after some hassle (PO installed aftermarket speakers with different wires than stock, which explained why no sound was coming out!)
But, my question is: what are those wires that I didn't need to hook up for? The ones in between my index and middle fingers in the photo. One is constant power, one is ground, I believe. White/Black stripe, Black/white stripe, Green, Red/Green Stripe.
Clock? 12v power/cigarette lighter?

Thanks!
Marshall

On both harnesses that you are showing, the white wire with the black stripe is the ground. You can find that wire on about any harness that you open up. A quick way to verify that information I just gave you is to pull your tail light assembly out and you will see it there. I am not sure what the other colors are for..

What I do in your situation and will be doing soon is get the ends off of a parts truck and wire them back up to the way the factory had them and buy a stereo kit. Most electric issues I see is with the stereo and trailer lights hard wired instead of a plug and play system. I have even found some kits at Wal-mart.

Yeah, that would have helped with the wiring of the stereo, but I still wouldn't know what the wires went to. Unless, of course, they were attached to something in the junkyard!

You can order a replacement harness plug. Just do a search for a reverse wire harness. They're around $10 from Amazon. The regular radio adapter harness can be found for around $5.

My understanding of the reverse wire harness is to adapt your factory plug to current stereo wiring specs.
I had no plugs left. Nothing to adapt there.

Also, the strereo's wired and working fine, but I have these four bare wires and I don't know what they are for. That was the question.

Nah, the reverse harness is a replacement factory side plug. The regular radio adapter harness plugs into the factory harness, and you attach your aftermarket radio plug to it.
