Can I take a full wire harness from a 1979 Toyota pickup and put it in a 1981 Toyota?

Can I take a full wire harness from a 1979 Toyota pickup and put it in a 1981 Toyota?
I have a 1981 Toyota pickup and the harness shorted and fried all the way through the truck. I rebuilt the harness but it shorted again. I found a harness that's in a 79 pickup but its 4x4 and mines not. Will it work and if it does do I have to modify it?
