Exclamation Rear Diff Breather Mod

I have been fighting R/R diff leaks for the last 7 years; just about once a year on the same diff. The last 2 years I had to change out my diff housing, but that did not help.... Just finished shelling out 633.00 for another diff leak repair. This time my mechanic, Rob at Four Wheel Drive and Fabrication in Goleta, CA who has been with me the last 2 years suggested that I look into my rear diff breather. He told me that he has been getting reports that the breather sometimes sticks and fails thus causing the pressure to push to the weakest seal. I did what he suggested and found that the breather which was moded back in 2003 to the fuel compartment was working just fine.
After paying the Stealer 433.00 for parts and Rob 200.00 to do the work, I had to pick up my son 200 miles away. While standing there filling up my tank at 4.39 a gallon in Santa Barbara I noticed something that I have never noticed before..............The fuel compartment lid and the breather extension was pretty close to each other when I closed the lid. <My mind was going nuts! Was this the cause?> The lid may have been pushing on the breather thus blocking the pressure from coming out................We will see, now that the breather is free from the lid.
Though everyone would like a good story and a lesson learned. I have spend thousands of dollars on this issue - no more!

they have them on quads and are deisgned for being submerged. Essentially just a plastic accordian that you put over the breather port on the diff and hose clamp it on. Done, with no lines, and it never plugs. I got mine for $6 each from a bombardier dealer.
