1st gen pickup Halfdoor build-up
well since i now got my extra doors inside, i figured i'd start working on makin my half doors. This is my first time actually doing a project for my truck 100% by myself and also my first build/fab job. My goal is for the doors to somewhat resemble the doors on the Marlin truck with some of my own ideas thrown in as i go.
ok on to the pics!
what the donor doors came off of..my 1982 parts truck
off the truck and the first maskoff..didnt like it this way, too low
just about ready to be welded peremently "unlocked"
this time i was likin the shape
this is as far as i got tonite..i no, i'm slow haha
well there will hopefully be an update tomorrow, i'll try and take as many pics as i can

well this is the most i can do on the door until i get some metal, everything is fitted, measured, and ready to get transfered onto sheet metal. the linkage for the handle is put together and it actually works haha. man i cant wait to see these on the truck! too bad there's like a foot of snow outside
on to the pics!
cardboard mock up
back side, i added a support piece around the new door handle location
new linkage...bad pic..all i did was cut it to length and bent the end to fit in the clip..works great!
and the final pic of the day...showing the mirror's roundabout location, the mirrors are off an old dirtbike my uncle had back in yester year... they'll work good here too haha

i was thinking about it...i saw over on Pirate someone used 3" ID - 3" OD exhaust tubing, they said it'll work for cans and even 20 oz bottles...humm...i think i'll do that.

update!
both doors cut, drivers side has metal cut and ready for welding
welded up for the most part and the welds and bare metal primed ..gotta give thanks to my friend Rob for weldin it up for me...not the best fit..but thats what u get when u dont plan out well, pass. side door will be better!
now on to grinding smooth and makin it all purdy like haha, o yea got a little creative with the grinder
there are some gaps in the door, so i plan to bondo or fiberglass that up...they dont need to be perfect, they are probably goin to be messed up on the trail anyways

did you brace the inside with anything? When i made my half doors i wanted them burls so i could stand on them and be semi dent proof. Alot of peopel over at pirate had built structures out of 1x1 and similar inside. I dont know if anyone else has done it yet but fill the suckers up with that expanding foam stuff. they will never even dent.

no..not looking for a whole lot of strength...just sumthing that'll look good and do its job of allowing an easier view of the front tires
new pics of them (very) quickly painted and mounted up to test the fitment of everything, i drove around for a bit with it like this and man alive..its awesome..not to excessive of a cut..just right..plus it was greatly appreciated on a warm day like today!
i still have lots of grinding and triming and tweaking, but the major parts are done! so stay tuned for the finalized doors

Good deal, I just dug up your thread as I recently got a set of doors, turned out to be in worst shape than I thought, but they will work fine for my '81.
THanks for the good right up. I am thinking though since I don't have access to a welder yet that I am going to be using some 3/4" angle and small screws or rivets so I can use'em this summer..
