Project 85' Krawler

Well Jermey has his project thread, so it seems like a good idea for keeping my mind straight as well. I have the ultimate base set-up, now all that is left is EVERYTHING.

Suspension:
-Decide between
1.)rears up front, chevies out back(PIA, but cheep)
2.)All Pro's all around(easy, but expensive) GOING WITH THIS
-Order and install new shorter shackels
-Order and install new rear hangers(jonney joints, possible)
-Order or make u-bolt flip kits
-Order and install front shock hoops
-Order and install Rear hoop and new mounts(Sky Manf.)
-Order and install Bilstein 5100s(14")

Driveline:
-Get new long travel spline
-Get spline built into front DS
-Replace all U-joints in front and rear shafts
-Re-build front axel(seals)
-Install ARB 3rd into the rear
-Rip old 96' Runner's 3rd out of spare axel DONE
-Order and install 5.29 V6 gears
-Install V6 3rd into front axel

Steering:
-Order and install Marlin's Hy-Steer
-Mount IFS box(weld)into place

Breaks:
-Fix broken hard line up front DONE
-Order and install all lines w/ extended ones(stainless???) DONE

Cleaning: :pat:
-Grind,sand, and paint front axel DONE
-Clean and paint front hubs DONE
-Have Runner painted ONE color.

Protection:
Install Stubbs sliders
Order and install Sky Manf Skid/Crossmember

Misc:
Choose between: DONE
1.)Electric compressor(550C, Extreamair)
2.)Mechanical(York) GOING WITH THIS
Round up all parts and install OBA

Geez this is a really depressing thing to write up. Makes me wish I never started. I really need to find that money tree growing in my yard sometime soon. Wish me luck, and if anyone wants to lend a hand or some welding skills it would be really apreciated. I'll update when I get things DONE, or if I need to add anything(God forbid).

Yeah man, You have a lot of work ahead of you...

But no worries, now that we have some guys that are fellow 1st gen'ers that know whats going on with their trucks, we will have you going in no time.

I hope so, I've already talked to Mike a few times, he has some good ideas to help me with the engine once I'm ready for that. The suspsesion and driveline is my major worry at the time. It's a Toyota motor the frame will crack before the motor goes(knocking on wood for good measure).

Yeah, hopefully Mike will be able to make it with Will to the wrench-a-thon. You have a month to get the parts!

I can do the parts, what I need is to make darn sure there is a welder there, and there is someone that can lay a good bead. I really need all this stuff on and done there.

Hey stump, You may be interested A glove box lock since we dont have any way to secure our personal things when the top is off.
I'm getting one for the runner and I think Mike is doing it also.

I'll should have it back in a ready to roll by then, but I won't be able to get anything in parts wise, I have to do everythingall at once, shocks, springs and steering, it's almost $1200 alone.

well, you still have to come even if you don't have anything to fix on your rig. I think I might do the alt before I get there, I'm tired of souding like an R/C car!! It would nice to see the runner since we missed you at uwharrie. We need to get a group shot somewhere. We took a cool one at Mc'Ds but... will's computer is being a pain so we all can't SEE THEM... cough... cough...

Bump for List edit. Jermey thanks for finding a way to get me that kit w/o shipping.

For my buds with manual hubs, I lost the little spring and ball that goes in the knob. what am I supposed to do without those parts, Toyota want $100 for the handel assembly. I'm affraid that I might need to just get new manual hubs.. Any other ideas, anyone with a spare set that they would like to sell me for a 4ROC buddy discount price.

I got a set of AISIN hubs that I replaced with Warn premiun\ms a few years ago. I may be tempted to bring them to the wrench a thon.\, but I'd have to be pursuaded.

Austin for you to convert, it would take ALOT. The ADD system on 3rd gens is nothing like a 2nd gen where you can just swap on new hubs and be done. You have to get a manual hub conversion kit for like $600.

Well Seaflea I don't know what kind of persuasion you want but how about I buy you a case of you choice of beer. Jermey the same goes for you, but if you rather have some money name your price that would be cheeper than me getting a set for $50-$75 from a pick and pay. Thanks guys, that would save me headach, I'm ready to put my axel back together and now I'm screwed waiting for a little ball and spring, just my luck.
