What's the best price and where in Northern Va to get a timing belt replaced on a 97 3.4L?

Thanks,
Chris

I called back High Tech Auto (still looking for a used 33" tire as a spare) and Brandon said it could be a 4-5 hour job. He didn't mention any price on the timing belt, but asked about your water pump. I'm not sure if that's a reasonable time to do the work.

There are t-chain coupons on the website, but for dealers. So you might get a dealer waranteed install for regular non-dealer price. If you replace the water pump at the same time it saves labor, but if you have a 97 it's probably fine...

you can get timing chain, water pump, thermo etc. for something like 150-200. I am going to replace all my stuff over christamas break or in early january. Should be a full days worth of work.

Hmm, 4-5 hours labor at, what, $70/hour...

That means about $350 for labor and then parts on top of that.

Including parts? YES. (actually, even without parts it's not bad) As an FYI, you can get a Toyota belt for $35 - check with the dealer before letting them charge you more. Write to Todd ("TOR" here on the forum) for his pricing.

But do you NEED a timing belt on your '01? 90,000 miles is the recommended interval. If you've got that kind of mileage, then you should do the water pump as well. It's easy to do once you have the front cover off, which you need to do for the timing belt.

wait... I'm confused. You said the dealer sent you a coupon, so I figure that you meant a discount service coupon for some special they've got going. Is that right?

Who told you that you needed a timing belt, and/or what symptoms are you having that you think you need one?
