Any off-roading spots near or in the Bay Area?

I'm a beginner so I'd like to know where I should go to get my feet wet and also where some cool spots are once I get the hang of it.

Hollister hills would be the closest , about 1 hour from san jose i think. Good beginner trails and obstacles nice place . Maps for trails and picnic ares. Try searching web. There some clubs that give 4x4 clinics . I don't remember their names right now. Try looking at cal4wheel web sight and look for local clubs with web sights or call them.

Been there a very long time ago on a dirt bike. I think it was kind of small . I don't know about 4x4 there. Try hollister hills . Good family camping . Also has play areas with mud bog , rocks , stair steps and more.

Let me know when your ready for rubicon or fordyce !!

Mostly rubicon , fordyce or then just dirt fire road type stuff. I live near sacramento . 1 hr from fordyce , 2.5 hrs from rubicon. Theres some beginner wheeling trail somewhere around chico and by bear valley ski hwy 4 called ' slick rock '. Try slick rock on the web. Lots of good stuff in the sierras above fresno up hwy 168 to shaver lake.

Also try to ask this web sight. They will know of some , its a toyota sight.

After you tackle rubicon.
Another great trail is called dusy kinda like rubicon but stretched out to 30 miles takes 3 to 4 days to drive . Awesome views , lakes , streams. Its got it all.

Tell your friend to try " signal peak " trail . Off hwy 80 at Cisco grove . Take eagle lakes exit , same one as fordyce trail . Or next exit up try "rattlesnake road "
At Cisco grove campgrounds .
