it looks like whoever provided the intallation photos never reinstalled the heat shield. was this for photo purposes only because they had reassembled everything above the heat shield?

The heat shields are different between the two types of manifold/header. One would have to modify the manifold heat shield to fit the later header, so what people often opt to do it just use header wrap. I believe Scuba modified his stock manifold heat shield to fit the header.

the shield is kinda of a pain to remove and inthe process i pryed the tranny dipstick out of position and lost the bolt that holds the dipstick into position. anyone know what size bolt i need to pickup to replace that?

Correct. There's like 2 spot welds / rivets I drilled out, and drilled an extra hole or 2 in the heat shield and the heat shield then fit like it was stock.

Yes, you can find a heat shield from a 2001+ Tacoma 4Cyl and it will bolt up, since our kit uses OEM parts.

Just went and checked my tacoma. Sure enough, two decent sized cracks (Dammit!). Thought I heard an exhaust leak, was hoping it was just a collector gasket.

Does the mini header work on a 96 5 lug truck with a 2RZ? (I imagine it would).

This arrived EXACTLY when it was suppose to , I would definately order again from this guy/company , everything was as described , don't hesitate to splurge on this . I Painted the headers a silver color with VHT paint and man does it look good , now all i have to do is wait on pb blaster to soak in to start this project . I am planning on modding my heat shield to fit this as well .

Ps . The only problem i have is the kit didnt come with the EGR gasket , for 325 dollars i think you guys should just put the egr gasket in there too. No biggie tho.
Thanks ......Mh
