Which transmission do you use?

Ok. I'll throw it out there. I'll get either sympathy or dirty looks... I'm only 14, just snagged a CLEAN fj60 with no engine for a steal, renter wanted it gone. As I'm gearing towards finishing my om617 rebuild sometimes this summer, soon it will be time to throw the diesel in there. But I'm stuck at which transmission to use, I only know about Aisins. I was going to order an r151f from marlin when I can finance it, but I'm unsure how a gm or ford would compare. Since nothing will be stock in the drivetrain anyways, should I stick to toyota or just go a different route? Figured the best people to ask are the pros!

I'm biased to yota stuff, plus you can run dual cases. Will be BA when it's done.

I'd be more concerned that the OM617 is going to have enough juice to move that Heavy 60. With that said, you'll need an adapter for almost any transmission you stuff under it.
Don't waste your money on an R151, get an R150 instead... only difference is the lower first gear, which is not going to be an issue with a diesel. Lots of guys are running W series transmsions with Merc diesel swapRead up on all the OM617 swap threads you can, also go over to IH8Mud and do some research, they have a huge LandCruiser forum, and lots of diesel information.
I think PyroJoe stuffed an OM617 in his pickup, and has a very honest thread about power output and driveability.

Good luck
RB

I heard that the output is different though, and the r150 only takes chain cases... Is this true?

true, but you can get an adapter for the gear driven transfer case if that is what you are trying to swap onto tail housing. and R150 plus adapter for R1FA t-case is still cheaper then a rebuilt R151.

Use a w56 no one makes an adapter for the r150 to om617.
