eaton true trac problem

eaton true trac problem
I have a 1987 Toyota 4x4 with a eaton true trac locker in the front. iv been told by the garage that the locker isn't allowing the axle shafts to go in far enough for the clips on the axles to lock in good. does anybody know a solution to this. iv searched on it a lot and found something about shiming the carrier bearing, does that have anything to do with my problem.

I do'nt see how any shimming of the carrier bearings could make a difference.
I have never seen a True-Trac taken apart, but I'd guess that whatever passes for side gears is what might have to be thinned on the inside to allow the circlip to expand.
It could be possible that incorrect seals, or such might not be permitting the axles to seat deeply enough for the circlips to get a bite. Maybe too, your axles or clips might be boogered up.
I'd call the manufacturer of the carrier and question them.
Please let us know what you find.

My 88 had Detroit Tru-Trac's in both axles when I bought it from a friend. I know for sure he had just put new IFS axles in it not long before he sold it to me.
He was pretty new to wrenching on his own truck and just followed repair manuals. He got those axles swapped out just fine with the Tru-Trac.
I got it all separated just fine when I sold the Tru-Trac and the axles when I did my SAS.
Not sure why your axles won't go in. Do you have the old ones to compare to the new ones? Is it aftermarket axles or OEM?
Try contacting ZUK @ gearsinstalls.com and see if he has ever run into this. Please let us all know what you find. Dead end threads suck.

Are they having the problem on both sides? Are they off by the same amount on both sides? Are they the ones that installed the locker? If so could be an instillation problem. Are these new axles that are being installed? If so close comparison should be made with the old ones.

its the same axles being put back. both sides slide out yes. it was installed a year ago and the garage that did it then is telling me now that there suppose to slide out this way and that's not so . I called the Toyota dealership and they told me there is indeed a circle clip on the axle shaft that should snap in place and retain the axles in the locker.
