21 spline transfer case vs 23 spline
So I have been looking for a while and haven't really found an answer. Aside from the obvious, spine count, what is the difference between a 21 spline gear driven transfer case and a 23 spline gear driven transfer case? I keep reading about how the 23 spline is the strongest transfercase, but if the only difference between it and the 21 spline is the spline count then it can't be that much stronger.

many people have done alot on the 21 spline stuff. There may not be a lot of info here on YT because frankly not many people here will ever find the limits of a 21spline. If you do a search on Pirate there is more info there but even there the general consensous is the 21spline stuff is tough. 42" tires, dual t-cases, many years at the hammers tough.
BTW the only reason I am running a 23spline chromoly is because thats what my cases came with.

anybody ever break one?
sorry for bringing up an old thread, again... Has anyone here actually experience breaking a 21 spline? or do people just get a 23 for peace of mind?

I've seen it and its never pretty. 23 is definitely a piece of mind, but it really depends on what power plant you have, where you wheel, and mainly how you drive.

As the v6 comes with a chain driven t-case and the gear driven is preferred.
Have seen builds with a 350 and a 21spline t-case. But that comes back to how the person drives.

Hey, what are you guys doing for companion flanges (yoke/flange) on the t-case? I just found that my front drive propeller doesn't actually match the 23 spline flange correctly? I'm wondering if there is an aftermarket multi-drilled flange somewhere. Trail Gear doesn't sell one for the 23 spline. I'm starting to wonder if my drive drive shaft isn't correct. The flange on the t-case doesn't line up properly with the flange on the front drive propeller. I checked a couple other drive props and they look identical to the one I have. ?? Not only is the bolt pattern not correct, the raised center ring on the drive prop flange (u-joint) doesn't fit inside the machined hole on the t-case flange.
Anyone else ever have this issue?
