Don't know much about Toyota trucks/suv from everything I have read they seem solid. A friend of mine is selling his wife's 2002 Sequoia Limited with the 4.7, the vehicle is very clean and well taking care of. It has 198k miles on it, my friend is a very good mechanic and takes very good care of the regular scheduled maintenance on the vehicle. He is asking 4500 for the vehicle it seems to be a good price for the condition of vehicle. I'm looking for a new toy to lift and tinker with. Is there anything I should know about these particular vehicles and does it sound like a good purchase? Thanks for any info that can be provided.

A friend of mine recently purchased an '03 sequoia with 175k for about the same price.
I would do the usual checks of fluids etc and check the CV's/u joints etc.
It is a high mileage 12 year old truck so issues will begin popping up now and than

I had to repair a fender on an 02 model about two years ago and it had 402k miles on it. The guy I worked for says the owner hasn't had much trouble out of it at all, mostly basic maintenance. Really impressed with what I have seen out of that truck. How well it is taken care does have a lot to do with it.

Thanks for the info, he said he is about to change the water pump and timing belt on it so that will also be new. If it all goes well with the drive I may be a first time toyota owner. Thanks again guys

Hope all goes well for you. If it has been taken care of, you will be surprised at the longevity of these trucks and how few repairs is actually needed.

Great vehicle. Ask your friend if he's ever had problems with the braking system. There was a recall on 2003-2005 models, for the ABS computer. The stability control system would activate the front brakes, rapidly pulsing from left to right side. There are hundreds of the same complaints for the 2002 model year, but Toyota never issued a recall for them.

My Dad's 2002 Sequoia went through this, and he just about scrapped the thing, rather than spending thousands to have it fixed.

I had the same issue with my 01 sequoia. Nearly killed me several times, scared the crap out of me! However, I looked into it and came to the conclusion it would be the YAW sensor malfunctioning. The sensor itself was too pricey for me at the time, so I simply disconnected it and poof! Never happened again. The VSC lights would be illuminated, but it only prevents the vehicle from losing traction which isn't a problem with me. Wink wink. In conclusion, I'm very upset that Toyota won't address this as a recall problem, but the temporary fix is simple and works! I hope this helps somebody from getting hurt or fixing it! Otherwise, the rig is nice and impressive.
