thinking of buying a land cruiser

I currently run a 91 4runner, with the typical bad 3vze. runs on 4ish cylinders and i drive it every day. i was browsing craigslist and i saw a few cruisers in my price range. i just wanted to see about the pro con of the fj80, the 4.0 in specific, since it seems more common in the range i can afford. im not a hard core wheeler, just love the yotas. my family is growing, so a bigger truck would be nice, and id rather not sway from toyota. thanks in advance
matt

land cruisers are nice. Depending on the year you get they have a sfa as well. Some come with locking diffs. I wheel with a guy that owns a nicely built fj80 on 35's. He does well with it. It is a heavy rig and kind of a fatty on the trail but tough as nails. i say go for it. It would be a step in a more reliable direction for you as well.

the 4.0 is really under powered and a gas guzzler... the 4.5 DOHC is a better power house and gets a little bit better mpg. They're both extremely reliable and will do 300k easily.

thanks for the replies. so is there anything like the 3vze head gasket issue with these trucks? common problems besides the gas mileage? i get 10-12mpg now, so not too worried. any one know of a decent shape land cruiser within 400 miles or so of Fayetteville arkansas? thats also in the $3000 range? also wouldnt mind a fj60. carbs dont bother me one bit(makes engine swapping easier, lol)

I also have a buddy with an FJ80 (Lexus version though). Also on 35's, it's an animal! I'd LOVE to get one but I have too much time and money invested into the 4Runner.

I say go for it!
