Automatic vs manual gear box

Hello every one
I have a fzj80L gnpeka with
- a442f automatic gear box
- 4.55 deffrential ratio (standard tier size 275/70 R 16 ) which I modified original is 4.11 ratio
- part time conversion with dash switch installed
- front weel hubs

I have problems with the automatic gear box so I thought of shifting to manual gear H151F 5 speed.

My concern is the 5th gear ratio in the manual is 0.881 :1 which I think will reduce the car general speed even more than what it is after my reduction from 4.11 to 4.55 deffrential ratio

In the A442F the 4th gear ratio is 1:0.756

Has any one done this shift to manual and faced this problem of general speed reduction
Thanks a lot

Going from 4.11 to 4.55 isn't a reduction per say. Its a gear reduction, but will raise RPMs. I would go 5-spd, if it were mine and I had a donor vehicle to get all the necessary parts from.

The combination of going from 4.11 to 4.56 gears and changing the transmission ratio from 1:756 to 1:881 will give you a 29% change in your top gearing. If, for example, before you were running 3000 rpm at 70mph, after the two changes it would require 3870 rpm for the same speed. That's a pretty big change, and you're right to be thinking twice about it. Maybe change to bigger tires at the same time to better match the new gearing.
