Torsion bars and rear leaf springs?
Hey guys, newly registered to the forum but have been a follower here for years. I recently bought a 93 Hilux (Toyota Pickup) RN85 2wd for a bargain as my Corolla auto transmission died, and I have 2 questions for you guys?
1. Can rear leaf springs on a 2wd be swapped with the (same year) 4wd leaf for extra height?
2. Are there any other torsion bars which can be used, such as 4wd items? Here in Australia there's a very poor market for 2wd upgrades so it's impossible to buy upgrade torsions unless I import from USA etc. I won't be using this offroad much, I just want to throw on nice all terrain tyres and go for a 'prerunner' themed build, tube bumper, wider flares etc.
Thanks for any advice!!

For the leaf springs you shouldn't have an issue and for the torsion bars I think you can use the 4wd ones but don't quote me on that. Good luck on your truck!!

i believe the fix for the rear is to do a spring-over setup, since you should have spring-under in stock configuration - just this should net you ~3-4". no clue on lifting a 2wd IFS, sorry -- i know it's been done, try searching for 2wd prerunner builds using pre-tacoma pickups.

an 87 what? truck, 4runner, 2wd, 4wd?
in general, yes, your vehicle could benefit from new leafs - especially if you haul cargo around regularly. unfortunately, most aftermarket stuff nets you some sort of lift, usually ~2"+ with stock shackle length. you would have to figure out how you want to level the front - or not. there are other options if you simply want to gain height or if you don't want to invest much money. lots of info to be found through searching here or simply on google. good luck!
