Sig Sauer P229 9mm

Bought this badboy about a month ago - love it.

Sig Sauer P229 9mm DA/SA

I've only put about 100 rounds through it so far.
It's by far one of the most accurate and stable handguns I've ever shot.

Easy to clean, disassemble and carry.
Granted, it is a heaver gun given the 100% metal frame - even with that, it's easily carried and concealed.

So far the only holster I have is my concealed carry one.

Galco IWB Holster

Next thing I'll get is probably an extra mag.
I really like the aluminum grips that Sig makes but they're a little pricey.

Later down the road, I'll probably add a light/laser also.

Right now I've got both the mags loaded with Federal Premium 135gr Hydra-Shock JHP rounds.

Seem to be a well-balanced and accurate round, has good velocity retention and from what I hear has good penetration, too.

For the range I just use Winchester target rounds that I get at the range for cheap - they still burn pretty clean though.

Just thought I'd post up what I was carrying, feel free to post up with your own piece.

Be safe,

Fink

for summer carry try lighter rounds, like 90gr&115gr, the best all-around 9mm round i've found for carry is the speer GD 124gr +p, great bullets.

Nice weapon finkster... don't you find the inside the waistband carry uncomfortable when sitting?
Personally I think I'd prefer a shoulder holster but they are illegal here for civilian use and not allowed on ranges because of safety issues... the only holsters they allow on ranges here are either normal hip or competition speed rigs...

jjrgr,

I've heard mixed revies of the Speer's - but now I have one more for the "pro" side.

The +p kind of makes he hesitant due to the increased pressure it puts on the gun.
Plus, I don't know that it really changes the effect of the round all that much.

Also, why do you recommend a lighter round for summer carry?

You've found the downside to the inside-waistband holster.
Long car trips can become a little uncomfortable.

The nice thing about the P229 is that it's a smaller version of it's big brother the P226.
I don't usually wear it unless I have my t-shirt tucked in - mainly to prevent sweat from getting on it but also for comfort.

Right now I'm looking at the Blackhawk Serpa CQC holster for range carry.

It's already got my gun in it too...

I've never worn a shoulder rig before but I bet it'd be comfortable.
The thigh rigs are also awesome, but of course could only be used at the range (some) or on personal property while shooting.

I just found that holster on sale too...hmm...

Yeah the only down side I know of to a shoulder rig is you have to get your suit jackets tailored to allow for the extra under arm bulk to prevent bulges and pulls...
I'd assume you'd probably have to go up a size on your bomber jackets for the same reason though they are usually a bit looser fit...
A couple of guys here at work are black badge competition shooters and the speed rig they use is this tiny metal frame thing that barely holds the weapon at all. You def. could not wear it for a street carry.

right now the only hand gun i have is my Glock 21 .45, all standard with the two factory 13 round clips. i really like it, deff not a easy gun to conceal very easy due to its size, but intimadating as hell lol. it sits in my night stand with a clip of winchester silvertip hollow points in it. iam actually looking into one of this sigs next, something smaller to pack once get my concealed weapons permit. my girls cousin has a springfield XD in the .40 s&w, id really like to fire that gun.. i hear there sweet.

Great looking pistol!

Recently I've debated selling off my AR15 for a sig 226 or sig 229 in 9mm once I turn 21.

Very true.
Plus, if you took your jacket off you'd be screwed.

Yeah, the speed rigs are insane - I wouldn't feel safe carrying mine in one.

Yeah, I debated between a Glock and a Sig.
I liked the feel of the Sig better - the weight and all metal frame sold me.

I thought about getting a Springfield XD(m) but the sheer size of it made me worried.

Eventually I'll probably get a Sig P239 9mm.

It's a single-stack, compact Sig designed exclusively for concealed carry.
I've seen it and held it in person and it's exceptional.
A little bit small for my hands but as a back-up gun, it would be ideal.

You're more than welcome to occasionally look at this thread for your gun pron fix.

Yeah, I don't know that I'd do that.
I'm desperately trying to find a decent AR around here that's in good shape.
I've even considered paying full price for one and just putting it on layaway for a few months.

Granted, an AR is more than I need.

My buddy has a decked out one that he built after his last deployment - it makes me drool.

Not that I'm aware of.
I'm thinking of putting it up for a vote and making it a sub-forum in the "Off-Topic" area, though...

Not that i know of, this looks like the start of it thoughl.

I looked at the sig when i was helping my grandma pick out a gun. But it was just a little to heavy for her. Shy ended up falling in love with the taurus melinium pro in a really neat looking silver/black finish.

12+1 and duble action only but yet a trigger pull about the same as a stock glock just a tad longer. I never really liked taurus but i have to admit, that is a nice little gun. Shoots REAL nice.

I have those same hydra-shock round loaded in my 9mm's as well. I have heard good things about them as well and they shoot nice on the range.

Thats a nice AR for sure, but they don't accept legs or arms as payment for some reason?

I actually just ordered an AR from Del-ton. Total cost out the door is under $750. I got the lower from military gun supply and then the rest of the parts from del-ton for $600.

Should be here in a few months. I have heard REAL good things about the del-ton guns.

Wow, that is awesome.
I will need to look into something like that.

I love Rock River and Bushmaster.
DPMS is a favorite of mine too - but all equal $$$$.

Sweet pistol man! Good luck finding cheap ammo for plinking though. Ha ha. I was in Wal Mart yesterday and they are completely sold out of 9mm and .45.

I carry an HS2000 and use a IWB Crossbreed holster. If you're ever looking for a good holster and AWESOME customer service, Crossbreed is great. I have the SuperTuck.

Luckily I've pretty much got an arsenal of 9mm target rounds.

I've got 40rnds of the hollow-points I use for home defense.
Hopefully that is all I will ever need.

That holster is slick, is it as comfortable as they say?
