I love my glock 23 and next on the list is the 21. I love everything about it the 23, the caliber, the size, the feel. I did get one the hogue slip on grips and it made it even better.

I like shooting my budddies Glock 23 but the trigger leaves a little to be desired. I'm looking at a Springfield XD .40 for myself but I haven't shot one yet.

I have a 17, 19 and 21 and the .45 cal shoots so great, easy kick and the big rounds can do a lot of damage :-)

if you learn to shoot, well, you only need a 9mm. for tips check out the book "stress fire" by massad ayoob, an excellent guide, and teaches proper pistol shooting habits. the turret technique.

if you are going to conceal carry, and don't have huge hands go for the 19-23, my hands are too big, so i carry a 17. but it doesn't carry as well as the 19. i have a 19 w/the grip extention and is still too small. it's my wifes now.

also, don't waste your money on stock style night sights, check out the XS 24-7 night sight, once you become proficiant at shooting, you'll learn to focus soley on the front sight. and this sight helps.

Over the years, I have been voyeuristically involved in numerous discussions/conflagrations about this very topic. Absent first hand experience, I always allied my opinion with the 'better safe than sorry' crowd and chose to carry .45 acp when I could. I believed that the ballistic characteristics of that round were naturally more effective than those of the 9mm Luger, where the antagonist was homo sapiens.

While this may be true, I saw in first person present what a 9mm round, discharged at close range, could do to a human appendage. The damage, even with a "through and through" wound, was potentially fatal and certainly incapacitating regardless of determination to continue with the original assault.

Months later, the wound was still problematic and likely would yield a life-long handicap. I still carry a .45, but respect the 9mm much more.

get the 19 and then go to www.blackhawk.com and look at the CQC Serpa holster. fits like a glove.
get a good round and w/ hits in the vitals 9mm is a good round

Many military and law enforcement organizations in the United States continue to use (often modified) M1911A1 pistols because they favor the .45 cartridge and the handling of the weapon in close fighting. Marine Force Recon, Los Angeles Police Department Special Weapons and Tactics, the FBI Hostage Rescue Team and the 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment - Delta (Delta Force) are among them. None of these guys learned to shoot well I guess and should go back to the standard issue 9mm and read Ayoob's turret technique?

If someone shoots well with a 9mm then good for them. If I shoot well with a .45 then goody for me. When someone hands down sanctimonious put-down judgement in any forum they won't get much respect.

I don't shoot a .45 because of the FBI or the USMC or some self-proclaimed forum expert. The FBI made a big deal out of .40 cal and then their own HRT wanted .45 for their weapon. I happen to do well with G-21 and will not be miffed if someone wants to shoot another caliber. (As a side note I found I really liked a Beretta in 9mm over the G-17). I also own 9mm weapons but prefer my G-21.

It isn't just the weapon caliber. It is the marriage of the weapon and the shooter that counts. Train like you fight and fight as well as you train. Looking over all of the messages I see all sorts of brands and all sorts of calibers represented and sincerely hope that every shooter has a great time and gets lots of range time with their choice of weapon.
