3.4 L 5VZFE Rebuild in Baltimore, Maryalnd area
Hello Guys/Gals,
My father just found out his crankshaft on his 3.4L 5VZFE is damaged due to the crank pulley falling off (mechanic did not tighten pulley to torque specifications). Since the engine needs to be removed and the engine has over 200k on it, I told him he should just rebuild the motor since he is already going to pay labor for removal/install.
My question is whether or not anyone knows of a reputable place around Baltimore that won't charge him a ridiculous amount for a rebuild while doing good work.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your time.

I have had good experience with this shop. I would call ahead and discuss the problem with them. The owner's name is Jeff and I know he is an honest mechanic.
They are about 30 miles west of Baltimore, but it might be worth the drive.

Thank you so much for the reply... I will give them a call today! I found a rebuilt engine for $2,400 and someone to put it in locally for $500.00, seems to be the best option so far.

if you can find someone to put it in for $500, you are getting a great deal in my opinion. i think book time to swap taht motor is 18 hours? i only know because i am going through a motor swap right now myself. did you look into getting a low mileage used motor? in my area they usually run about $1000. im about 3 hours north of you in pa though so prices may be a little different out there.

Ed's garage in Monkton. I believe one of their mechanics owns an 84 4runner, FJ80, and fixed up a 3rd gen for his daughter.
They're an honest shop in my opinion and only fix what's needed.
