EmazingOregonYota's 1987 FJ 60 Land Cruiser Buildup
OK so picked this up last week for $2200 from a Craigslist ad from within 10 miles of my house. From what i hear of these models i got a pretty good deal.
Heres the picture from the ad:
And here a day later
Pretty clean interior with new mats and seat covers
The Mighty FJ! (with broken k/c)
The mighty 2F Straight 6
Plans for this rig include OME suspension, roof rack, ARB bull bar with winch and snorkel. Also a header and Flow master exhaust. The more immediate things before i can afford all those mods within a couple years will be minor repairs and restores to make it a better rig. - Desmog, rear wiper sprayer fix, tune up, etc.
So far this is the my favorite truck I've drove off road and is way beter than my pickup not only in performance but comfort features. Has working a/c, strong heater, comfy with a well tuned carb. etc.
So i am planing of fixing up my truck and selling it
But in its place will be an awesome cruiser!!

I gotta get a few more pics but i got my 31" Toyos from my pickup to clear stock and i went wheeling a bit yesterday to test it out. It looks AWESOME with the M/T's on it!
And it wheels even better!!
And don't worry I'm all into mildly upgrading/ restoring this beauty. Don't want nothing too crazy on my hands

That a pretty sweet looking rig, I wouldn't mind ending up with a finished product similar to that
Oh and forgot to mention ARB Air lockers for my final plan. There expensive but worth saving up for from what i hear

Maybe they would do better with wider axles but I personally haven't been in a position that makes me want wider. Im still excited about the 9.5" ring gears in the differentials. These things seem like beastly street legal tanks.

Okay so I went down to my local Oreileys and ordered a set of NGK spark plugs and a distributor cap and rotor and plug wires. They should be in Saturday.
I also bought some new Bosch windshield wiper blades and a bottle of RainX that I'll probably do tomorrow. I got my wisdom teeth pulled on Wednesday so I've been orders off of truck work for a few days, but windshield wipers don't count, right?
I forgot to order a fuel filter and Im planing to do an oil change this weekend too so Im gonna pick them up tomorrow.
And for some reason a couple times today I've had real trouble getting it to start. Turning but not turning over. Im thinking fuel so Im ordering a fuel filter. Hopefully a combination of that and the new tune up and oil change will have her purring like a kitten
On oil Im thinking either 15w40 or 20w50 synthetic whats everyone think?

Okay so 2 gallons of castrol gtx and a quart of Lucas leak stop has the 2f running like a champ. And a new fuel filter doesn't hurt
I can really feel the power and torque increase going from the P.O.'s 5w30 he told me he ran to some nice 15w40 with Lucas oil in it. Can wait until tomorrow until the rest of my parts are in.
I also painted the windshield wipers and changed the blades. I used some leftover black rustoleum rust converter and now the look shindy and nice instead of kinda surface rusty.
Still having the starting hesitation though and Im not sure what it is but hopefully some new ignition parts will take care of that tomorrow.

Ok so my parts came in today
And I have ruled out all problems to being spark related. Meaning all is well and the cruiser runs amazing.
Tomorrow I am going to fix my rear window washer leak. (Or try)
I'll keep you posted and try and take some pics.

Success on fixing my rear wiper washer! And for less than 10 dollars
I got my tubing at Lowes. Although Im sure any hardware store would have it. I got 20 feet for like 4 dollars. I took a few pictures but got lazy near the end after I sent to the store..
In still gonna try to write a write-up because I haven't seen one anywhere online for a find with this problem. Even though I have seen many threads asking about it.

Thanks. It was a little tricky but pretty straight foward. A good place to check for a break I'd in the rubber tube on the passenger side of the rear door and the body and the top of the truck. My break was right there but to be safe I put all new line.
Im in the progress of writing a write up for this (started last night) and I'll post a link when I get it done.
