Yet Another Tundra Big Brake Upgrade - Updated HEAVY 56K BEWARE
Well, I finally did the upgrade yesterday. I bought 231 mm Calipers, rotors and pads for about $150 total. I got the calipers, rotors and hardware for $100 and $50 for pads from the stealer. I got them off a 04' Tundra Double Cab V8 with 30k on it. It took me about 5 hours to do including a transfer case seal. Most of my time was spent bleeding the crap out of the system to make sure I didn't have to take it to the dealer for the $100 brake flush where they use the Toyota Hand Held tester. Sorry no pictures. I can take pics of what I have and the clearance that I ended up with if someone requests it. I do have the 02' Limited Rims on my 02' Sport. They fit nicely and it stops wonderfully. Much more robust stopping power. So, if anyone has any questions, feel free to ask.

The Tundra brake upgrade is by far the best mod Ive done to mine so far... How close was the caliper to the inside of your wheel? I went with the 199mm calipers just to be sure I wouldnt have to make any mods on the wheels.

Very close, within 3 mm it looks like. I couldn't get my finger in between the caliper and the inner diameter of the rim from middle of truck to outside. As far as the outer diameter of the rim it came to within 8 mm or so I think. I can get some pics posted today or tomorrow with my new Sony A33 DSLR. I was worried they were not going to fit after I did all that work.
Ok, so I hope this is some satisfaction to you who want some pics. These are some pics that I took of the truck that I got my brakes from. It is an 04' Tundra Double Cab Standard Bed V8 2WD with 30K miles. As you can see, they had to use the jaws of life to get a lady out. There was a bloody sandal in the front floorboard.
Now for the brakes: These are the 231 mm calipers with rotors. I bought pads from the stealer.
For some complication, the bleeder valve was broken all the way to the edge of the caliper and the steel brake line was pinched. I had to buy new ones at the dealer ($10). Here is a pic of the bleeder valve that I had to drill and use an Easy-Out to remove:
I did have to bend the new brake line to get it to fit just right. I was careful but no complications arose. It was a little nerve racking since when you undo the brake line fluid pours out.
Other than that, it was a pretty easy swap. I did cut the backing plates with a pair of tin snips which cut them like butter. I did use about 3 pints of fluid bleeding the crap out of the lines to make sure I didn't have any air in them. Yes, I bled all 4 corners starting with the right rear --> left rear --> right front --> left front.
Pretty easy swap. It is time consuming though.
