WTB running boards for 3rd gen

I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction on where to get running boards for a 3rd get 4runner. I see a lot of 4runners had them from the factory. My paint is getting sandblasted bad from sand on the roads out here. Anyone have a good link? I might also be interested in just a step bar.

You will get a ton of replies from people wanting to sell or give you their boards. Most people end up taking them off. The propblem with running boards is the cost to ship them.
Where are you located?
This will help your search

Limited or SR5??? The reason i ask is becuase i have a set of black w/ chrome strips that were factory. Let me know if these might work for you.

oh, my location would probably help. I live in southern Maine. I have the SR5 with the small chrome trim on the fenders, not the limited with the big fender flairs.

For the people who have removed them, how do your trucks fair in the winter. All I hear when I drive down back roads is <tink> <pop> <bang> from all the rocks hitting the rockers. I don't off road alot and figured the running boards would help the side of the truck.

Thanks for the info guys! This is my first winter with the runner and its awesome.

How hard are they to remove & put back on. I do like the tough look of the 4runner without running boards & the big tire package, but don't really want to sandblast the paint every time I drive it during the winter.

The problem out here is every time it snows out here the public works bring out the sand truck and dump another round of sand on the roads...

Can these just be bolted on to a truck that didn't come with running boards? Just curious....

anyone happen to have a set in the New England Area?

Also is there a company that just sells a step bar? You know it just looks like a pipe you step on to get in the truck? I am new to this 4wd stuff, so I don't know where to get this kind of stuff.

Why no just get a pair of mudflaps, unless you already have them. Then if you get in to wheeling get sliders instead of the nerfbar/tube/pipe you mentioned. Sliders can handle the weight of the vehicle if you end up on a rock whereas the pipe you might be thinking of will crush. Do a search for sliders.

The running board a simple bolt on/off, make sure you get the mounting bolts/kit also or get it from a dealer. It should take you 30min to mount. If you have a SR5, you want to get the running boards from a similar model so that your end caps match the size of your fender trim.

In that case I guess you need running boards if you want to reduce anymore further stone damage. You can always remove them when you want to go offroad.

Sorry to intrude on someone elses thread!

I just bought a 2001 SR5 - does not have running boards
It is gold colored and I am in the Detroit area - willing to
pay shipping.

If anyone has running boards that would fit - please
let me know. shiftmotion@yahoo.com

also prefer the limited ones.

thanks guys!

Do a search of the classifieds. Numerous folks with running boards for sale. Try Ebay. Try a junk yard. Ask Santa Claus for some next year.
