Talking Wooo Freaking Hooo!!!!!!!

Just got back from picking up my truck.. I had figured on doing the bottom end, certian that the shop was going to have to pull the heads off to fix anything... So I figured in case he did, the ok was to be given to tear her out and rebuild it all... We are 99.5% done with a refinance on our home, so I just added $2500 for a new motor.. Well, He called tonight to tell me it was his screw up, and #5 intake valve was too tight and leaking.. He changed that shim and it is all better..

He was not going to charge me, but I got him to take $50 at least for gaskets and the shim.. I mean, remember.. He only built the heads.. I installed them!! He had to have at the very least 4 or 5 hours into it.. Also, the best part was I did not trust my compression tester (I have also comfermed my tester is now bad) But my 140k motor has 155-160psi of compression across the board...

I am so happy, none of it was my fault, and it was basicly free. Plus, we now have a nice chunk of cash left over...

That's good news Lee.

Do I smell a few mods such as a Power Tank being delivered to your doorstep soon?

So you can drive out to Arizona and wheel that sucker like it was meant to be wheeled!

I want to see you kick some butt out west! You'll need some siders though. Even the best slip up now and then.

Corey.. soon, soon... (too many mods as of late.. Next will be a rear IFS brace followed by my long since missing Budbuilt crossmember..) But I have been looking, I will make my own, I am too much of a scrounge.. I will find a deal on a regulator and tank someday..

Steve.. Hell yea, that would be cool.. Someday I will, but not yet..

Got sliders, though... Some 32" MT's.. Low-profile bump stops and 4 corner custom made sway bar disco's (see my link below)
She is ready to get it!!

Nice rig Lee, glad it worked out the way it did. You're gonna need the 2.5k to spoil Daddy's girl like she deserves to be spoiled.

Hmmm $2500 to spoil my daughter on... Even I can't spoil a child with that much.. Fine balance there (I refuse to have spoiled rotten brats at any cost.. A little special daughter spoiling is one thing, but a "spoiled princess" no way in He......

155-160psi of compression across the board...
Does anyone know what the normal compression for the 3.0 is? I got mine tested at AAA about a year ago and the highest I got was around 100 and the lowest was in the 60's.

If I remember right, anything below 100 indicated there was some sort of problem.

Wowh.. 60's and 100's... that is rebuild territory my friend.. First off they need to vary no more than about 14 psi, This makes the truck run smooth. Next The compression should be 171psi (for basicly a fresh motor) with a minimum of 142psi If your truck seems to run normal, I would have it re-done.. I had tested a year ago about 150psi and when my motor started acting up with the new heads, I was around the 100's and I figured a re-build, but I asked the shop to re-do because it did not run like a 100psi motor.. Sure enough my tester is out of calibration... But 60-100 is a shot motor, and needs to be re-built.. If you are not using oil, have the test redone..

(Compression spec's are from a 92 Toyota FSM)

Whoa bummer. If you guys had to choose, which would you get done first: the tranny or the engine?

The tranny slips in first if I gas it, otherwise it's fine.

I've had no problems with the engine, everything runs very very smooth (knock on wood).

I'm only going to have the money to do one of these in the near future (however if the motor is as bad as I'm guessing, then it's a good excuse to get the supra motor )

Do the tranny, with out it you are shot.. I drove my 4Runner running on mostly 3 cly. all winter, sure it was a major slug, shook like hell.. But it kept going. I would be willing to bet AAA screwed up or have bad readings.. My motor last year (when I had the 150+ readings) had originaly a burnt valve.. #6 could only get 60psi (like your readings...) But it shook like a wet cat in winter.. With those readings your motor would be shaking badly and it would be hardly able to get out of it's way...
