Peter....

Please tell me your truck came stock with 15" rims, and at some point you upgraded to 16's....

Mine were stock 16 but I don't see any problems fitting these on. If I do run into any problems at all, it's a simple matter of bartering with the local scrapyard for a trade.

Win-win situation

EDIT: Yeah, I had been wondering about the size difference but a trade for even one 16" rim will still be worth the $11 I shell out

Yeah, for $11.50 its not a huge loss... I thought it was a problem with the calipers - larger calipers on stock 16" setups are too big to clear stock 15" rims. As far as I know, Wheeler's Offroad is the only place that designs 15" rims to be used on stock 16" tacos.

And at worst, you clean em' up and sell them for 10 times what you paid!

Actually, I was wondering about that...
my window sticker shows that I got a 15" - 16" wheel upgrade at some point. Does that mean they changed out to the larger brake assemblies too?

Please excuse my ignorance

I'm going to jack up my front end tomorrow after pickup and see if they fit.
If so then it's off to cleaning and start thinking about what to put on them.

If not, it's off to cleaning and calling local scrapyards for some good old-fashioned bartering

Good question. I know that mine came stock with 16" rims, but the tire inflation pressure sticker thingy on the door sill is spec'd. to 15" tires....

Well, I called the Toyota service guy at my local dealership and he tells me that the 15" rim *should* fit.

Sounds encouraging but I won't hold my breath. Not yet anyway...

I called another Toyota dealership and the parts guy tells me that the 98 15" rims should fit the 02"!!! I asked about larger assemblies and all that and he says there shouldn't be a problem!

WOOHOO!!!

Out of curiosity, why are you going to switch your wheels? Did something happen to the ones you have?

No, I'm still good with the muds but they did very poorly while we were out in the sand.

I'm thinking of getting some less expensive, less deep, tread tires for an upcoming trip up there with a few friends and maybe a separate camping trip with my family.

EDIT:
Though, I still haven't thrown out the idea of trading these for some 16" to offset the cost of 4 OEM ones from a local Toyota scrapper.

Apparently what Tom is saying only applies to 4Runners. For example, I have 16" rims and cannot go to 15". But, if I had 15" I could go to 16".

If you have a Tacoma, it will fit either, no matter what your truck came with. That's my understanding anyway.

Say all that fast 10 times.

I'll confirm that as well. 15 inch rims absolutely will not fit on a 4runner that came equipped with 16 inch rims- I tried. Its not so much that the calipers are that different, its a matter of the rotors on the 4runner being about 1.5 inches larger in diameter, puching the caliper further out from from the center of the rim. I'm pretty sure the Tacomas can run either size.

Way to go Tacoma Dude! A lucky find indeed. Are you going to buy the $500 4th Gen too? If you got those powdercoated, you could make them look sweet and would still be saving money over upgrading wheels. Good luck with what ever you do.

Actually, I went out and got wheel chocks today but didn't get a chance to check out the fit.

Will have to do that tomorrow.

Sorry, I was outdoors all afternoon today - washing my wet oks, finally vaccuuming out the sand from the front seats, etc, etc, etc

Used that Eagle 1 Never dull (or something like that) on the rims... works pretty nicely!

... and now, the moment you've all been waiting for.....

They don't fit.

Bwa ha hahaha
Just kidding! They fit like a glove!

Now I just need to figure out what I want to do next - save up for cheap tires or trade out for 2 or 3 16" rims
