top goes to ground
middle goes to switch
bottom goes to a +12V source. They tell you to use the high beams, so your lights will only come on with the high beams. Most people use another source.

look on the buttom of the relay or on the side there will be a relay diagram ..there should be #'s .pin #30 gets 12 v constant from battery , pin 86 gets ground , pin 85 gets 12 v from the switch and pin 87 goes to your fog lights . you can connect pin 85 to your high beams if you like thats how i have mine.

I wired my 500 fog light relay to get coil power (85) off the parking light circuit. This way the fogs can be turned on any time the main lights are on, but more importantly they turn off when the main lights are turned off. They way I can't forget and leave them on (my SR5 has the lights on reminder buzzer). The idea of hooking them to the high beams is that technically, fog lights should not be used with high beams on, only with low beams. So by wiring them as instructed you are complying with that requirement.

I wanted to be able to use my fogs independent of the high/low beams. While I mostly use the low beams and fogs together, I do on occassion leave the fogs on with the high beams in clear weather on remote, dark roads. The highs shoot light down the road fine, but leave the area just to each side of the truck in the dark. Fogs work fine for filling in that dark area. Also, once in a really bad fog bank, I killed the low beams and run with fogs (plus the running lights) since I was getting too much glare from the lows. Not something you want to do routinely, but having that flexibility is sure nice when you need it.

I used a direct battery hook up with a fuse in the line for the power thru the relay for the lights. Then I put the rocker light switch up on the dash right next to the clutch cancel switch using a 12v source from the fuse box. That 12v source is only on when the key is in Acc position, to trigger the relay via the switch. Easy, this way I can turn on my lights anytime the key is in the Acc or On position regardless of any other lights. Good for putting up tents and driving down dirt roads when you really want your Hi beams on and to use the new lights for the low beams. Works like a charm.
Now I just need to upgrade the not so bright '88 headlights to H4 bulbs.

Yes, using the ACC circuit to trigger the fog light relay is another option. That way turning the key off will kill the lights as well.

On the headlights, you may want to check the lamp voltage you are getting now, since a lot of the low light output may be due to tired factory headlight wiring. A new relay wiring harness can easily double the light you are getting out of your existing headlights:

Do you have to ground the switch and have a +12v source to it? It doesn't say that on the wiring diagram. Is the +12v source to light the switch up? and the lights take a 15amp 250v fuse, can I use a ceramic fuse of those specifications, and is it a slow or whatever you call it fuse, or a immediate fuse or whatever its called.
