I've seen several people meniton the idea of trying to swap in the new 4.7 V8 into their 4runners, but how would you wire for VVT? Would it be possible to use only the V8 ecu? or would you have to use both?

I think you need the 4.7 ECU. ORS will have swap harnesses for the 4.7 at some point.

So you would have to run both ecus?

I don't think so. One engine, one ECU. I think it is easier to use the ECU that mates to the engine, but there are most likely work arounds if you want to use your 3.0 ECU. I'm no authority, just what I've picked up from reading. You know the 4.7 engines are a fortune - when you can find them... I'm considering the supra swap personally.

I'm actually considering a 1zz or 2zz swap. My goal is to have the most fuel efficient 4runner.

I think you will also have one slow 4R with no pick up. Those engines only produce HP above something like 6k rpms and never produce much torque. If you're looking for fuel efficiency I'd put in a diesel.
