wind deflector on rear question

I've never really wanted but one. But decided this rig I could live with it (I'm still back and forth on that decision.) It is really functional. It keeps the back window far more clean that without.
Of the back deflectors the 2003&4 had much better looking ones than the 05. From a design standpoint I think the '05's probably was improved to function better by adding a "bubble" on top to catch more air coming over the car.

I agree with flyAddict. They are very functional as I can drive on snowy, slushy roads without getting the rear window all dirty. Same thing on dirt and gravel roads. On my 2002, the wind deflector looks really good.

The downward flow of air keeps most rain from accumulating on the rear window. I hardly ever need to use the rear wiper on my 4Runner, compared with our Suburban which has no deflector -- its rear window gets messed up driving in any rain.
The deflector also helps keep exhaust gases from entering when I have the rear window partially rolled down, which I almost always do. My dogs love to put their noses right up into the deflector's wind stream!

I have one on the hard top of my '85 4Runner and really miss it when I run the soft top. Really keeps the rear glass clear, especially if you use RainX on it. Blows off rain, snow, slush and dust once you hit about 25 MPH. Don't notice much difference w/ exhaust fumes, no problem with glass down a few inches, but open it fully and they come in regardless.
