OK guys, with all this lifting and new meats and stuff...I was wondering if a 285 mud-terrain would fit in the stock spare location? If not, not a big deal it will save me from having to buy another tire.

Also, would you recommend going with the same kind of tire as the rest or maybe just going with a really cheap one that will truly be used as a spare in case of the tire being completely flat?

EDIT: The reason I ask about the kind of tire is because I know some people recommend including the spare in the rotation every 5k miles...on a side note, if a 285 won't fit, should I just use the stock 265 spare that is on the rig now, if I only use it to limp the Runner home or to the nearest tire shop then I can't imagine the difference in diameter would be too rough on the rig...?

get a used tire or spring for a 5th. I think it fits if you let all the air out.

A spare will fit, just maybe not full of air...probably not w/ a trailer hitch.

And yes, get the same size spare or at least something close, doesn't have to be new, just something to get you home or to get the other tire fixed.

275/75 will fit with about an inch to spare W/ a hitch =)

I would think (but could be wrong) that you can get home fine with a smaller tire. Think of the dinky donut spares that come with some cars. Yeah, it looks funny when one of those are on a car but it gets the job done getting you home. If you were to get the same size spare, it would be a good idea to rotate as well. Never thought of this one.

If you're really nervous about getting a flat and being stuck, I like knowing I have AAA.

A full 285 MT/R fits under my '01 4Runner, however I did have to get rid of the tow bar. No big deal since I don't tow anything.

i fit a 305/70/16 m/t underneath, fully inflated, no modifications to anything. i dont have a tow hitch though.

if you get a spare, might as well get the same size...

Hmm...I think I will go ahead and get a full size spare, and get the wheel that I posted about on EBay and then if it fits great, if not, I'll just keep it at my apartment or tied down in the back.

Ordered an OEM wheel from Colorado Wheel Company via EBay about 45 seconds ago, that should be in next week sometime and then I'll go ahead and order 5 tires too.

All in all, I'm gettin this rig all fixed up!
