Long story short, my company truck died and the bosses decided to give me a vehicle allowance instead, but I need to buy my own truck. My 4Runner is just too old and too modified to work as a 120-mile-per-day daily driver, so I'm looking for a Tacoma. I've found a '97 that looks really good in all aspects, but I looked at an '01 today and have some questions. The '01 had a larger center console area for storage, and then that one flipped up and there was a smaller storage area deep underneath. I really want that lol. I also will really be able to use the multiple 12v power ports that the newer trucks have, as opposed to the single cigarette lighter in the older trucks.

Are all these parts and pieces relatively interchangeable? AFAIK, the trucks themselves didn't change much beyond cosmetics, so I see no reason why this wouldn't work, but there's always the chance of something stupid cropping up that derails the whole plan. I couldn't find anything on the search or Google. Does anyone here have experience swapping the newer truck interior bits into the older trucks? And speaking of cosmetics, I like the newer style black fender trims a lot better than the skinny chrome ones on the '97. I assume those retrofit easily as well - do they?

I'm likely to pick up the '97 on Monday if I go that route, so I'd like to know if I can do all this beforehand. Thanks for any input!
