had my friend ghetto weld it in his back yard, he claimed it would hold, and im poor. taking it to a pro ASAP. i drove it home 2 hours with just the little nub on the tranny. trust me you do NOT want to try that

it was an extension to the shifter needed to accomidate my body lift

it held up fine for a week of road driving, i just got a little excited on the trail and yanked too hard going into 2nd gear. anyone that drives a manual knows what im talkin about

Whoa, that's too bad. Hopefully a quick and easy fix for a pro.

Always use a short piece of steel pipe the appropriate inside diameter so both ends of shifter lever stubs can fit snugly inside and then weld.

about that far

an inch, maybe 1.5 at the most, but i like it alot

dont expect to keep your car clean, it throws up water when it rains even just a little

Yea I'm going to take a couple welding classes at my community college so hopefully I won't need to take my rig to a pro when the time comes for the SAS.

This is why a big ViceGrip is always neatly tucked in my glovebox. this happened to me once on my '80 chevette I had my first year of college (I called it the "˟˟˟˟vette") and had to have it towed because I didn't know what in the hell was going on, oh, I was also drunk and didn't feel like driving anymore so I let the wrecker drop me home. haha.

I would have knocked there teeth in for a comment like that, they don't know you could have done it and they'd be insulting you, that's not too classy in my opinion, must be a couple from pirate4x4.

At Marlins shop Rocky TIG welded mine. I looked at him kinda like, WTF? after he MIG welded mine and he looked back and then TIG welded them.

Yeah that's alot of force and needs to be welded correctly.

well, maybe if i was 6-3 220lbs instead of 6ft 155 lbs i could make a comment like that :pat:

i wasnt too mad about it , the car was still driveable. had it snapped flush with the tranny i woulda been in serious trouble, but i had enough to grab onto that i drove it all weekend without too much trouble, just ALOT of HOT air coming inside the car.

be damn sure that this time that weld is gonna be strong enough to hold the whole weight of the car

Hey now- I came from there . I remember when it was a very good tech board (still is) but is / has been going downhill for awhile now. I guess thats what happens when you have 20K members.

As for the welding- take some JC classes in the future , and learn how to do it (it really is so easy). Now being a good fabricator- that takes lots of time, and alittle natural talent.
Take care,
Richard
