I want to upgrade the muffler on my 4cyl. and flipping through the new summit catalog I came across the Hooker Headers Aero Chamber mufflers. They are only $54, and claim to have a "mellow deep tone." I am on a limited budget so the price is good, and I want more performance, not a car that sounds like NOS injected lawnmower. So have any of you guys used these mufflers? What other mufflers are there that are about $50 or less that improve performance and don't make a ruckus?Sorry if this is the 1000th time this question has been asked, but I have seen the "muffler page," can't remember whose site it was on, but that was all V6's, and no 4's. Thanks for the input.

Well Plays_with_toys, if I didn't know better I'd think this was an adult forum. A word to the wise...you get what you pay for especially in regard to cheap hookers....

btw, not to flame or anything but there's no such thing as a v4. FYI It's a straight 4

Where is the mention of a V4? I think he means listings are for V6's and no 4 cyl not that he was saying V4.....

Yes, no 4 cylinder sounds yet, sorry.
I have asked a few who have a nice muffler setup on their 4s, but they don't have access to digicams to get me sound bytes or videos.

Give the last addition on my page a look.
That is a Pep Boy's 18" glasspack, and it sounds good on the V6.
It might sound good on yours.

The shop I deal with Stan's Headers in my area swears by a glasspack for the 4 cylinder and V6 engines.

There are such things as V4s. there was a Saab engine, the Eagle Talon TSI V4, and subaru impreza's. im sure there were more as well

I don't think the subura was a v4, they call it a "flat four," but I don't remember the cylinder configuration.

The rally Subaru's used the V4's but I don't know if it is in the production vehicle as well.

"Flat" refers to the fact that the cylinders are 180 degrees separation, 2 or 3 on each side. The block and heads creating a flat shape. Subaru uses a flat 4 and 6 in some of thier production cars.

Porsche put a flat 6 in thier 911s for a while, I don't know if they still do.

Porsche 924,944 also had high -output V4s in them.

Help me review:

The "V" degree separation varies between 30 and 65 depending on manufacturer.

Inlines typically have the pistons moving straight up and down.

I think Ford built a "slant-6" for a while, cylinders inline but tilted 30* or so off verticle.
