Where to wire a 12v outlet? Battery only?
I just added a 12v outlet under the rear seats. I ran the wires along the door sills, but now I need to wire it.
Do I really have to wiggle it through the firewall (which seems to be a total PITA), or is there another source inside the cabin that will do?
I will use this to power an air compressor at times, but mainly some cheap ass DVD player I plan on buying for the kids at Costco's.
Thanks in advance.

Yea, wire it into the other cigg lighter plug. I did this myself and it was all rigged and junk. I took a wire and shoved it inside the 12v cigg lighter wire and grounded the other wire.
You wanna get all fancy get an add a fuse and wire it in with that or be like me and install an auxillary fusebox near the firewall under the hood.

just wiring it to the other cig lighter is fine if you are looking for a really easy low amp way to do this. I would run a wire through the firewall with an inline fuse. Yes, a little harder, but you wont have any wires that are cut to short circut and spark anywhere. Save your rig from fire and do things the RIGHT way.

Wouldn't it be easier to run the wire to the REAR outlet it the new outlet in under the rear seats?
If you do the under-hood full-time power mod, this will always have 12v power, if not it will still go on/off with the key and you still have the front cigar lighter for any other accessories you may need. The rear is on it's own circuit.

I would listen to CJM dude. You need to install an auxillary fuse box. It is a REALLY easy install, looks clean neat and will protect your vehicle. When you start messing with electrical, adding accessories you have the potential to over load circuits and that causes heat which melts stuff that get hotter and then like to "self combust". If you have any intention of adding anything really cool to your truck the Aux fuse panel is the way to go. Did it myself, was cheap easy and fun to do and you can make it look really snazzy. Then you have a built in extention for other accessories, from lights to stereo, CB, accessory outlets you name it! Do it right, do it safe and enjoy the ride!

Ritzy, do you have any photos of your install? I too am thinking of adding a fuse block, but not sure of the location (in cab or under hood) or how to go about it...I am still trying to track down my dead turn signal, so this will have to wait, but if I have the dash pulled apart...you get the idea...

Hugo, here is my aux. fusebox and 12v outlets.
No reason it will not work the same in your rig.

You wire the hot wire from the aux. box right to the battery, install an inline fuse a few inches from the battery, and you can also run a ground wire from the aux. box to a bolt under your dash.
The fusebox above is known to be a very good unit.

How big of an air compressor? They suck a lot of juice. Be careful, chances are you ran some thin wire from the outlet up front. A long thin wire can create a lot of resistance and heat up if your using a high amperage device (IE air compressor) and possibly cause a fire. Personally, I would run something like a 8 or 10 gauge positive wire, and ground the outlet to the body as close to the outlet as possible. Run a high amperage fuse close by too, something like this
Better safe than sorry. I had a buddy who burnt his car down to the ground due to shoddy wiring.
