Where Do I Adjust The RPM's? *3.4 V6*

Maybe about a month ago or less, the dealership replaced my timing belt, and spark plugs, I think the dealership screwed around with the RPM's. For the past couple of weeks I've been saying that I was going to adjust the RPM's but when I looked under my hood, I couldn't find where to adjust the RPM's. Can someone help me out? Here are some pics:

your engine rpm is computer control, no ajustment possible. :pig:

are you talking about adjusting the idle.....

lol--you don't adjust anything. The computer decides how your truck idles and there is no way to adjust it. it should idle at 750rpm or therabouts. If it doesnt, oh well, its not like you could change anything anyways.

is it idling high? thats what mine did when the tb needed to be cleaned.

It's idling low, I remember I could adjust it on the 22RE with a flat head screwdriver, so its not possible with the 5VZFE?

Sorry to hear of you're problem Vato, but as far as I am from being an expert I'd have to agree with "its2slo" and next point to your throttle body. Even his idle was opposite yours it could still very well be a gummy TB. Has it been cleaned lately?

could you see a big difference after you changed plugs and got timeing belt. I am getting to ready to get the same service. I have had my runner since it had 48000 mile and have not done anything to it. It now has 83000 miles and probly need a tune up.
Did you get better miles per gallon?

you need a scan tool to check the idle air control valve. funny the fsm also mentions to make sure timing is properly adjusted.

i was wondering the same thing, my 3RZ-FE (2.7L) is idling around 500 RPMs and i was wondering if i can adjust it at all. guess not tho, because sometimes it drops below 500 and almost stalls for no reason

I noticed a big increase response in acceleration and better miles/kilometres per gallon.

is it better to have higher rpm at idle than at lower? Cuz I'm pretty sure mine is just a tad bit higher than normal.

Usually if the idle is off and no one has screwed with it ever than something needs to be changed, cleaned, etc... Now that you changed the plugs, Just clean the throttle body now and I bet your idle comes back to just perfect again.

Sorry dude, but I think you're out of luck, sort off. With carburated engines, it was easy to adjust the idle with a screw driver. With fuel injected vehicles, its a bit tougher, since the computer more less has full command of what your idle is. If they took apart your throttle body, they may have screwed with the positioning of the throttle cable. However, I don't think they would have touched this while changing the timing belt. You could get a higher idle by tweaking the tension on the cable. However, I wouldn't recommend it. Is it just running at low rpm, or is it running rough? If its running real rough, they may have screwed up when they put the timing belt back on and messed up the timing of your vehicle. Its better to have a lower RPM at idle, as long as you're not stalling out (that would be too low). Initially, the engine will run at higher rpm's upon first starting up, just to get the engine warmed up, and get everything coated with oil. As the engine warms up, the rpms should drop. Unless you've got a piggy back computer like the SMT-6, you don't have a bit of control over it, other than keeping it tuned up.

Mad chemist is right that the cams could be off a tooth but it would run pretty badly if it was like that. You can take the timing cover off and check the alignment marks to see if they did it correctly. Wouldn't be the first time I have seen that type of thing happen.

Better idea check your timing with a timing gun. It's not off though you rig would run like crap. The timing belts on these motors are pretty easy to do and very hard to mess up.
