I like the look of black wheels. Thinking of painting my 3rd generation 5 spoke wheels black. I'm not sure how they would look but I need to know how to go about the painting part. What type of paint should i use? Sanding? Primer? Can any paint pro's give me a step by step. Has anyone ever done this to their wheels before. And if so can you please post pics.

To do it right, you will probably have to have them powdercoated.

i dunno how much powder coating costs, but why not just sell ur stock wheels, and buy black ones? save the time of getting them powdercoated, and then remounting them.

just get THESE ROCKCRAWLERS! THey look soo awesome! u can sell ur stock ones, and then put it to the cost of the new ones!

Some other cool black steel wheels are the Desert Crawlers you see in the ads in the 4WD mags.
They look like the Tech Ones, but they have the fake beadlock rivets all around them which look better IMO.

If I was getting black wheels, those would be what I'd get.
IMO though, black wheels don't look as hot on a white rig like mine do as a nice polished aluminum wheel does.

If I was to replace my Centerlines, I'd be inclined to try out these new ones from Mickey Thompson Tires.

Those would look great on a light or dark colored rig.

If I went with the 16x8's, would 4" backspacing work?

I don't know much about backspacing.
I just buy wheels and they have always seemed to fit right

The only reason I found out about them is my 4WD & SUV mag I get each month.
There is a big ad in the new one for the wheels.
A lot run the standard MT Classic wheel including Steve S I think.
But I like the looks of the beadlock look better.

They are not cheap though, around $300 a pop.
The same mag I mentioned above did an off road test with these last summer, and they are very strong.
Much stronger than a metal wheel for off roading.

I bet the Mickey's are a lot cheaper, and I think they look better.

I agree. Those Champion Beadlocks are at the top of my A list now. What do you think of the Axis wheels with the simulated b-locks?

Some states don't allow you to run a true beadlock on the highways.
I know WA. state doesn't allow it, and they can give you a ticket of you run a real one.
